Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Guys,

Having a blast with these combinations:

TH900 with:
- Burson Conductor (ESS9018 DAC)
- JDS Labs ElDac (AKM4490EQ) & Cavalli Audio Liquid Carbon

Sublime.

While it does sound really nice out of the ifi xDSD I can see how these do scale with power available to them.... just a bit more dynamic when goving then power in abundance.

So happy to have them finally.

How do they sound?
They are still super new; got about 15 hours on them (and myself) now. It's a solid headphones with a hefty price but in my opinion they are worth it.
The bass is a welcome addition next to the HD800s. I've noticed that I really like them for watching netflix.

With that kind of bass and soundstage, I'm not surprised. Try gaming with it too.

Nice! Have heard the original TH-900's or MKII's to do a sound comparison? I've read these are tuned differently and I'm wondering how the midrange sounds.

If I remember correctly the English description of the blue version said that the drivers have new tuning. But then again it was exactly the same description text as the regular TH900 has, so I figured they probably have the same tuning after all.

Of course this is all my own speculation and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, haven't heard the blue version.

The right driver in my D2000s recently gave up. So since I had nothing to lose...I guess I now technically own TH-900s? Whatever this thing is called I'll take it. I'm enjoying hearing little details I never heard before while simultaneously being pounded in the head with subbass.

TH-900 driver vs D2000 driver. The moment I saw that magnet my body was ready. :L3000:

I haven't heard the red th-900's so I can't compare. The blue do have a slightly different tuning according to the documentation. Its all over the internet if you search for the blue ones.

Can't blame Fostex; these headphones are magical. I enjoy the dekoni sheepskin pads more atm then the original pads. The Dekoni pads temper the highs a bit.
On my HD800S's I use the hybrid pads; how would they fare on the TH900?

It will be advisable to buy a th900 Refurbished? the truth is that 840 usd for them seems great.

or 1,099.99 for the mk2

Is it true that there are treble problems in this version?
