Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

you are so informative....Can you do more elaborate on the amplifier.
It's absolutely fantastic. I prefer it over Little Dot MKIII with all 4 tubes upgraded, which cost me about 400$ total.
When I want some tube magic, NS-02E gets 100% of usage, and MKIII gets no action at all.
NS-02E does provide "tube" sound, but it doesn't create a warm veil like Little Dot MKIII.
The sound becomes fuller and more liquid, but clarity isn't sacrificed as much as with Little Dot MKIII.

Sometime I use it as a pre-amp for my Staxes.

Ordered another one on 11.11 - gotta have a spare!

It's a hybrid amp, obviously - not for tube purists.

The low cost version might tend to be a minimalist on their circuit implementation, which can have better result as in the example of Nelson pass implementation, or Soloist amplifier of Burson audio as long as tunning is ok for better power stabilizing, better biasing, etc...

i remember from my reading the Lyr2 doesn't have large sound stage , this why its out of my list , but anyway thanks for the recommendation.

i heard the woo wa6 before and i very liked it , it have smooth sound but the test was on a deferent headphone ..
i jut sent woo an email , will see what they will say , although i wasn't looking for pure tube amp , but your post encouraged me to include it in my list ,, thanks bro ..

hmm very tempting specially for the price :) , but i am looking for higher end amp
your post sure will benefit others looking for budget amps, thanks dear .

imo a tube amp really brings out the best in the 900s

the CDM is probably the best pairing i've tried, been attempted to buy one ever since

Anyone tried this ?:

I believe in Chi-Fi, or China-Fi...
The amplifier is one the simplest one in millions other devices in electronic product space.
It does not require any fancy thing to achieve to satisfy Th-900.

@kuutan

Your TH 900s and entire rig is gangsta as fukk! How do you find what I can only assume is Dekoni elites? I want to purchase new pads cause my stock ones are unraveling, but I am afraid to change sound for the worse

Haha, thx! I really like it, it looks very aggressive. I nicknamed my dac/amp setup the Yamato after the battleship in Starcraft. You are right about the pads, they are Dekoni elites. Those were from Massdrop. In my opinion, it improved the sound and comfort. You can argue sound stage... but I won't...heh...

And yea, my work day is going by fast! I'm almost off to enjoy these at home!

Should've called it a battlecruiser since Yamato is the cannon part only

Intradesting about the dekonis. I certaintly don't want to lose any soundstage. Then again worse comes to worse I could always order stock pads if I thought it impeded too much on SQ.

Haha goes to show you how long it has been... obtw they are the thX00 dekoni elites, I can't remember if th900 elites exist.

I wouldn't say you'll sacrifice sound stage , it's just that my ears can tell the difference hah...

There are th 900 elite sheepskin and elite fenestrated sheepskin. I want the th 900s cause I like the space for my ears. I already have a pair of denon ah-d5000 with those type of pads, tried them on the TH 900. Tamed the highs but overall lowered SQ to my ears.

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind. Might pick up those to try.

Stay away from the 610 sheepskin pads - they are not the best pads for TH900.
I'm working on a shootout of many pads for TH900, there are better options.

i've been pad rolling with the massdrop options and i've found i like the sound on the th900 fenestrated and thx00 hybrid best. the fenestrated sounds better but the plush surface on the hybrid is super comfy and great for cold weather

EDIT: still not sure what the attenuation rings do tho..
