Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Thought I would show some love for the TH 600 by sharing my listening experience at this moment.

Brahms 3rd Symphony with Takashi Asahina conducting the Osaka Philharmonic from 1995 on Pony Canyon Records Japan. Playing file via jRiver upsampled to 4XDSD on a iFi Nano iDSD to a customized Perreaux SHX1 headphone amp which is my second set up when not using my Nakamichi Stasis SR-4A Receiver.
Needless to say it sounds gorgeous with that Osaka lush and elegant string sound that Asahina brought forth with good bass heft.
For a really nice bass workout Eberhard Weber's Encore on ECM was next!

Please share what you are listening to with your TH 600's!

Man, now I'm embarrassed to admit I like Taylor swift on the th600 :)

Taylor Swift is cool with TH-600

Also listening to some Rippingtons, Keiko Matsui and Berlin

does the th600 worth the 600 $ honestly ? or there is something that is close of that sound for cheaper ??

I love my TH600 but not for $600.  Something close to TH600 for less money would be the Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Headphones.  Mahogany $399, Purpleheart $449 and Ebony $499.

I've had a TH-X00 for a few weeks now and the TH-600 is a better headphone IMO, bass is cleaner and better detailed, mids a touch smoother and highs that are clearer and more extended.  But it could also be that the ear pads of the TH-X00 just don't seem to fit me well and are too hard to listen with for more than 15-20 minutes.

I believe your assessment is accurate and I would add TH X00 is head centric and TH 600 has a more expansive soundstage from my experience.

If you can afford the mkII 610, I would go that route.

Why? Wood cups, better dampening, detachable cables. Basically a fully lawton modded TH600 for $499

IMHO a basic lawton modded TH600 should sell for $400. A stock TH600 should sell for no more than $350.

That's good to know because I nearly pulled the trigger at one point on the THX-00 purpleheat edition. Glad I stayed the course. I have found some recordings the th600 doesn't particularly shine on but for that I either switch to s Senn HD600 or Beyer 990

I have the Beyerdynamic DT990 600 Ohm premium and my Fostex TH 600 with Lawton Mod smoke the Beyerdynamic DT990, YMMV.
