How do these compare to the Sure srh440? I was thinking about replacing my Sony V6 headphones. I want another closed headphone I can use for isolation in car rides and on the go. Which would be the best between this two headphones?

Does the fostex have a straight or coiled cable?

Fostex t50s are semi open, but have a straight cable.  Even my closed back t40s don't isolate as well as V6s, that being said I still use them portably out of my setup easily.

Unfortunately, I only own the vintage T40s with circular drivers that are better sounding according to most people, so they might be hard to find

Shures have a much more congested midrange and the bass isn't as clean IMO.

Hope it helps.

I don't think anyone can tell you which is the best for you.  They have very different sound signatures.  The Fostex is more engaging.  The 440 is more detailed.
