For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Just stumbled upon Philip Sayce, highly recommend for the Blues fans out there. When I was a teenager, I got my hands on Zeppelin live at Madison Square Garden 1973 on VHS. I must have watched it hundreds of times. Since then, I've been a Cherry burst Les Paul Standard guy my whole life. It's hard to deny how iconic the tone of an early 60's Strat through a Fender Twin or Super sounds. Now I want a Strat to pair with my Twin. Great, more money spent. Thanks Philip...

VE Grand Duke + HIBY R8 II

Hectic weekend, cooling down with one of my faovorite albums from last year.
Always a trip going trough this electronic album, such beutiful and immersive landscape portrayed.
The Grand Duke has an enormous soundstage with a warm and grand tuning, very perfect to dream myself into the music.

This was great! Lovely morning listen that segued perfectly from KCrimson's starless bible black.

Next is what? Reaching out for the familiar soothing (to me) soundscape of doom metal! Bring on the heavy Slow-cooked rumble, Ahab.

KC have been one of my favorites for decades now... I'm not too huge on the current lineup (feels a bit "best of" I suppose Fripp's earned it), but I was lucky enough to catch the later incarnations of the Belew lineup live.

Their catalog of studio and proper live albums are great, but the rabbit hole of DGM tour recordings goes DEEEEEP lol.

There are a few absolute stand-outs from over the many years, and all this Crimson talk got me fired up for some particular favorites I've picked up over the years...

Terrible recording quality, can practically hear the smoke on the tape. Doesn't matter in the slightest, the energy of this new lineup and resurrected Crimson is blinding through the murk... the dedicated listener is treated to proto-versions of Discipline's best tracks as well as some new takes on the European trio's highlights (including the first live performance of Red!).

From a beginning to an end... the final performance of what many consider to be the best Crimson lineup, wrapping up their 74 USA tour in New York. Hearing the last time Starless was performed by its creators is worth the price of admission but the entire thing is an absolute treat... this lineup's improvisation means each performance was a special event and this one is absolutely the apex. The prior evenings in Providence were used more heavily for the Great Deceiver boxset (and in further reduced form on the Starless studio album), but I think this was due to the much better recording quality available, as the performances here top them.

This entire inaugural tour by the new 90s double trio lineup is absolute dynamite, but it's fun to imagine what those in attendance at this first show must have felt to hear and witness the new sound. The double drum configuration always seems to mean for spectacle with Crimson and hearing the idea take off on tour at launch... it's why I get headphones :)
Wonderful post. Many thanks! Enjoyed it

The Yes Album (1971) by Yes - After all the recent new (to me) music I've been playing I was in need of going back to my musical roots and this album, plus Fragile and CTTE were a big part of the base on which my love of prog-rock was built. With the addition of Steve Howe the band really took off, he was the missing ingredient, he completed the band. The first track, Yours is no Disgrace gives Chris Squire's bass the spotlight and it sounds quite fantastic through the HD800S, crisp and powerful with a wonderful low growl, while Steve Howe takes the torch for Starship Trooper with multiple guitar tracks (and sounds) swirling around the stage. When it comes to Perpetual Change (my favourite) it's absolute kitchen sink treatment as everybody gives it everything they've got, it's just pure musical magic. And now on to Fragile...........

Contemplating my next IEM purchase on vacation while listening to my current album of the year… a wonderful infusion of acid/breaks/jungle from one of my oldest favorites in the game.
