Couple of weeks ago, while doing some straightening up of the place, I found my Sony MDR CD900ST's.
Had completely forgotten about them; listened to them only a few times.
They still had that 'new - right out of the box" sense and sparkle. I wanted to check them
out again. Adjusted the ear thingies, put on some good music, and...
I liked them. They have a unique sound, at least to my ears. Although rather
analytical, they seemed pretty well balanced And quite comfortable too.
(Not sure how the wizards at Sony managed that - comfortable closed
headphones that are light in weight). So I've been listening once again
to a lot of the music I like the most. And a bunch of new things as well.
Quite a nice change from my usuals - Grado PS500e, Grado RS1i, Beyerdynamic
T1.2. And just a few others.
So yeah, for me it's the Sony MDR CD900ST. I think the folks over at Headphonia
got it right when they referred to them in this way:
"Here is an obscure little Sony headphone that we don’t hear too much about....
the Sony MDR-CD900ST is relatively unknown, except perhaps in Japan, where
it is quite a popular monitoring headphone.
The reputation of the Sony MDR-CD900ST for a good monitoring headphone is well deserved.
....it definitely stood out among the abundance of Pop headphones we find these days."
Today is the HD660's. Haven't tried these out in a while. Took a bit to adjust. I really enjoy them out of my Liquid Platinum.
Deftones/Crosses all afternoon.
Started the day with a pair of HD820 which I have enjoyed for a couple of months. Some room to improve on isolation when needed so a pair of Focal Stellias followed me home this morning. Problem fixed. And more. Not to mention the decadent luxury... The swing between these closed back high and low impedance phones highlight the flexibility of the MHA200 that is driving them. Loving it.
I was on vacation recently where the only things I had to listen with were my Focal Elegias and my Campfire Lyras. Now that I'm back home, I've been listening to my Pioneer SE Master 1s and Hifiman Aryas exclusively.
