My Marantz CD6000KI is a snob. He refuses to play cheap discs. Brilliant Classics, DG's budget line Galleria, Hamonia Mundi's Musique d'abord, burned discs, he just wont play them. Only the standard full price discs he likes. Pfff, what a dick.
So I recently replaced my Brilliant Classics Bruckner Dresden/Jochum cycle with the green EMI box set. This box set is budget priced, but it looks way prettier than the Brilliant Classics discs. It fooled the Marantz!

A. How does the EMI box set sound?
B. Do you use the CD6000 SE headphone jack? How is it?
C. What is it with the number ‘6000’? I use the Audiolab 6000CDT … fantastic.
JRiver Media Center > SMSL SU9 > SMSL SH9 > HiFiMAN HE400i w/Dekoni sheepskin pads
Emerson, Lake & Palmer (1970) by Emerson, Lake & Palmer - I was a mere whippersnapper of 13 when this was released and having already been pulled into the world of prog-rock by Yes and Atomic Rooster, I soon became a fan of ELP. In school we had a good album swap system going and would lend each other various records, which is how I first heard this album. I wasn't instantly bowled over by the classical tracks but as soon as I heard Knife-edge I was a convert.

A. Identical to the Brilliant Classics Box. Brilliant Classics had these recordings licensed from EMI/Warner.
The sound is pretty bright in the higher registers, definitely not the smoothest. But still, not bad. I love these Bruckner recordings, these are my favorites.
B. Yes, I use the headphones output of the CD6000KI, and it sounds great. I have made some comparisons between the sound of the headphones out of my CD players and that of my dedicated AMP/DACs Marantz HD-DAC1 and Audio GD R211. I don't seem to notice any differences? Maybe, just maybe the Marantz HD-DAC1 sound marginally more 3D?
C. Funny, that AudioLab and its successor the CD7000CDT are recently on my radar. As as security measure, when my CD players start to fail reading certain discs. CD6000/CD7000CDT seems to have impeccable error correction?

I think all Audiolab CD transports use a digital buffer to minimize playing errors due to dodgy discs. I went with the Audiolab 9000CDT which uses a disc drawer mechanism, and unlike most head-fiers, my headphone listening is always via a CD transport. (Streaming only for auditioning CDs.)
Monday is time for a fresh start. After two weeks of planars, it is a return to DD's. Specifically the iBasso SR2's. Time to lower all the gain switches to zero or lower.
I'm going to see Oppenheimer tomorrow (Barbie was sold out), so listening to this. Could have listened to Oppenheimer soundtrack, but like everything to be fresh tomorrow
