For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

It's surprising that a band/collab that good isn't more well known. The music is powerful and clearly executed at an elite level, the production is on point (which is the major place even a lot of great bands fail), and those vocals are insane! Thanks again, man. 😎

Mind if I ask how you're liking the Wandla GSE? I was thinking about trying one to see if the SERCE Module really provides the better soundstage and separation that Ferrum claims. I'm a huge fan of their Ferrum Oor/Hypsos stack (still the best and most versatile SS amp setup I've heard even over much more expensive boutique options), but I ended up looking elsewhere for DACs at the time I grabbed the stack. Anyways, my understanding is that the SERCE module does all that without editing the actual music/signal, but I'm wondering if it's A) effective in accomplishing its objectives and B) if there are any noticeable drawbacks sonically or otherwise?

its been less than 24hrs and a chunk of that time was researching figuring out why sample rate and bit depth wasnt changing. So for the time I played with it, it was on tracks there were being upsampled by windows before it even got to the DAC. now that Im able to send a bit perfect stream I need to dive back in again.

of the 3 settings the tube setting I didnt hear a difference but maybe thats bc the V281 is already a warm amp.

the impact setting was very subtle and didnt suddenly add bass to tracks that werent mixed with it in. it just seemed to add even more bass to tracks that already had it and it didnt seem to affect the rest of the FR.

for the spatial setting - similar to impact, if tracks are mixed with good separation, it makes it even better. however, even for tracks that arent it definitely adds an airiness to it. this is definitely the most noticeable of the 3. but overall its not a monumental difference.

on top of these there are the ~6 hqplayer filters so there is a lot to mix and match to find what sounds best.

EDIT:

Ok - for Impact - This Track definitely highlights the improvement. You can clearly hear the bass boost right at the beginning of the track.

For Spatial - This Track moves Lane closer and instruments further apart.

Over the last while my mindset in this hobby seems to have changed. I'm not listening as critically, and instead just enjoy whatever I put on my head (which right now happens to be the Monolith M1570). The upgrade itch seems to be gone.

Still Got The Blues (1990) by Gary Moore - I decided to take a break from prog in it's many forms tonight/this morning, so I grabbed my Grados and plugged them into the Vali 3 and went Blues hunting. I've listened to a hell of a lot of music over the last 12 hours (and my ears still aren't sore) but picked Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits (1971) and then this album to finish the session. I find it fitting that Peter Green was followed by Gary Moore as Green was a huge influence on his playing so it flowed nicely. It would have been even more fitting if Moore had used "Greeny", the 1959 Gibson Les Paul that Moore bought from Green for the album but he used "Stripe" instead, which became his goto guitar, another 59 Les Paul, that he used for the rest of his career - sadly Greeny was probably just too valuable to take gigging. The title track is easily my favourite, the sheer amount of emotion he gets out of the guitar is unbelievable and his technique is not of this world.
The Grados and the Vali 3 did a wonderful job with everything I played on this session except for an album by When Rivers Meet, which just sounded over-compressed but these final two albums, oh how those guitars did sing!

Qobuz (Google Cast) > WiiM Pro Plus (NOS-Filter) > ARCAM rHead > Quad ERA-1
Still trying out different chain variants with the rHead. Surprisingly, i prefer what i get directly through line out from the WiiM Pro Plus (seems marginally cleaner and more natural) to going through the nominally better E70V, but this is probably in the realm of nuances which others might perceive completely different or not at all. Still, it's fun playing around with these options while enjoying some great headphones and music. Happy easter and listening to all of you!

Discovered some missing albums on Qobuz that are on Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. Bummer. Tidal has exclusive mode, so I'm over here now.

Wandla GSE -> V281 -> Tungsten DS

can't embed Tidal either.

Michael Jackson: Thriller: https://tidal.com/browse/album/1781800?u

this album has some really great mixing!

Appropriate for today or any day, really, when the mood demands it.
Also, this remaster is divine.

My bad, I guess I should've paid attention and realized that you hadn't had it long enough yet. I appreciate the breakdown though. Without hearing it, it sounds like the impact is likely based on some sort of impulse filter such that it is only triggered by bass note impulses which it then shapes and subtly amplifies. Regardless of how it's done that sounds like an interesting proposition. I'm gonna have to get some time with one of these. Thanks, bro! 👍😎

Topical and Easter Stuff:

I just finished a pre-Easter Brunch video call with my girl and our families who have gotten together to celebrate Easter in my absence. It's really nice to have families that enjoy hanging out with each other on holidays and such. It makes holidays, and even life in general, so much easier. The only somewhat negative thing we've experienced is that it can be a lot of work to host when everybody you invite RSVPs and you've got 50+ people showing up. I actually built a new outdoor grill and kitchenette with bigger cooktops, a larger BBQ/grill, and more prep space because with the old one it took way too long to BBQ everything when everyone showed up for 4th of July and my sister's BDay (she was born on the 4th so we celebrate them together). My mom and my sister have even taken to hanging out with my mother/sisters-in-law just for funsies. My point in relaying all that is that it was nice to see so much love and family around my wife and son when I couldn't be there (we have an Easter matinee show early this afternoon/evening).

I hope all of you have a great Easter and that you and your families have plenty to be thankful for this Easter season. Happy Easter! 🐣 🐇🐰🎉

I'm starting off my Easter listening with my Hifiman HE6se V1s driven by my SMSL VMV P2 and Gustard R26. My wife, mom, and MIL sent me an Easter basket that got delivered on Friday and I finally got to open it this morning to I'm enjoying an Easter candy and baked goods breakfast while I listen. My mom makes delicious banana nut bread, oatmeal cookies, apple turnovers and she included some of each in this pretty huge basket. The turnovers are an Easter breakfast/brunch tradition in my family that I look forward to whenever I'm home. Nothin' like bomb food and sick tunes to make your morning, right? 🤤😎

And for my Easter queue I'm starting things off with an incredible new discovery: Göçebe (rel. 2024) by Congulus. Congulus are an Istanbul-based band whose sound is a compelling mix of instrumental prog/prog-metal and psych rock with some Turkish folk elements occasionally making their way into the mix as accent pieces. I only discovered these guys a few days ago when they were included as a recommendation in an email from Bandcamp. Especially recently, their rec algorithm has been serving up some real gems for me. This album is chock full of crunchy riffs, powerful and dynamic play from a locked in rhythm section, and some memorable hooks and melodies from both guitar and synth. The drummer in particular does a lot of the heavy lifting in this playing and songwriting style, driving the music forward while also setting the table for most of the devices used to shift/break rhythm, setup solos and bridges, etc. The bassist should really be commended for just staying with him and doing a great job using his own control of dynamics to feed extra energy to the song when called for. The bassist's role isn't something you notice immediately, but once you do it becomes pretty apparent that the song would be significantly less evocative and impactful if the bassline was not a well executed. If you like prog, prog-metal, psych rock, stoner rock, or just solid instrumental rock compositions, this album is too damn good to ignore. If you enjoy it as much as I do, you'll have found your new favorite Turkish band. 🔥🤘😎

Qobuz (PC) --> Topping D90iii (filter 7 setting, purportedly makes the sound more syrupy?) --> Schiit Valhalla 2 (Brimar 6060 driver tubes) --> Meze 105.

Happy Sunday/Monday, and Happy Easter and Passover to any/all of you who celebrate, and to those who do not celebrate a Happy Day anyway.

For me religious holidays are always interesting, considering that some family members are Jewish, others are Muslims, some members are Catholic and some are Evangelical Christians and a good portion agnostic. True story. As for me, my wife is a devout Christian and I generally find myself in the camp that does not believe despite having been brought up Catholic. Earlier this week I wished my uncle, aunt and cousins a Happy Passover and this morning some of my other family members Happy Easter. Last month I wished my Muslim family members that participated in Ramadan a Happy Eid.

What I find so compelling about music is that it bridges perceived differences and reminds us (at least in theory) that we are all humans, and that at the end of the day the content of a person's heart and soul speaks more about that individual as compared to what religion/non-religion he/she identifies with. Much like traveling, music opens the mind's appreciation for the vastness of existence and curiosity to not only explore said perceive differences, but also find unity in said perceived differences.

Anyway, I hope I did not offend anyone. Happy listening everyone.
