I have to admit that I struggle a bit with Bill Evans....I enjoy his playing on every album I have heard, but I always come away wowed by those he is playing with. This might be testament to his musical generosity. Take this album, wowed by the bass and drums, oh yes, there is some nice piano too...

In Trance (1975) by Scorpions - Having a Scorpions playthrough, which may take a while as I have 25 albums. I started out on Lonesome Crow playing through my RS-1x and it sounded like ass, so I switched to the SR325x and it sounded perfect, they are such a great rock headphone and I am now on In Trance, their 3rd album and won't be changing to anything else until the playthrough is done. It annoys me that Michael Schenker gets all the attention when Uli Jon Roth is such a ridiculously good guitarist without any of Schenker's demons, he just does what he does and sounds fantastic while doing it.

@unfitstew how are Focals scaling with HM1? I am very curious since I always have this feeling they are not scaling that well like other hard to drive cans (read Susvara). I have right now Clears MG and I think I can not push them any further with Envy with exception of tube rolling but this would impact all headphones not just MGs.

I don't have a Utopia to say for that. HM1 is an amp that is very fast, incisive, and has incredible control over headphones drivers.

Due to the control I have found the bass on some headphones really shine on it such as the Atrium Closed/ Unfortunately while Clear on HM1 does certainly sound good I think it benefits from a tube amp or a warmer amp more. HM1 usually adds an extra "sizzle"/sparkle to a headphone and that doesn't always help with the Clears already pretty hot treble. HM1 is a very "neutral" sounding amp. I do think it sounds better on HM1 than a few other more neutral amps I have heard but I wouldn't call it super significantly better.

My HD800s for example benefits from the HM1 considerably. HD800s bass is more dynamic, fast and full. Its treble is extra great on HM1 minus that its treble stays fatiguing. But overall the HD800s scales to be very much a summit fi headphone that competes in many ways with the flagship stuff. Where as Clear technicalities gets better but I would still call it having the sound of a $1500 range HP. Vs say HD800s going to say $3-$4k ish.
