For 6BL7 tube users

Ahh okay, thanks alot guys, i do have the c3g just not the adapters yet. Not sure if im willing to go into the external heat business just yet though.
How about using 2 6bl7 and 2 6sn7 as powers, anyone tried that?

I got some very nice Sylvania flat plates last night (I have 3 sets now). Used but tested well. Great condition.
 
So I mixed Sylvania flate plate and X plate into each socket last night. First time I have done that. I liked the result.
 
I'm curious. With the double adapters can I run one 6AS7G/6080 and one 6BL7 off a single 6080 socket??? or will it be too hard for my amp? Amp is the Woo WA22.

6AS7/6080 draw 2.5 amps and a 6BL7 draws 1.5 amps. so a whopping 8 amps for just the powers if you do mix a 6AS7/6BL7 per side...plus the draw for your drivers.

Can't say if it's safe or not in the Woo because I don't know the Transformer limits.

I can say that I heat externally via a 20 amp Transformer and have done 6AS7/6BL7 and a 6AS7/2x 6BL7's per side.
What I found was the second you add the 6AS7 (or 6080) the 'magic' you gained with multiple 6BL7's is lost.

That multiple 6BL7 advantage of deep powerful yet articulated bass, plus the additional midrange presence/clarity and detail digging,
is gone, once you add back in a 6AS7 or 6080.

So...I never do it, and stay 2x 6BL7 or 3x 6BL7 per side or some combination of multiple 6BL7's / 6BX7's per side.

The 6BL7 advantage is major and a visit back to 6AS7 will renew your 6BL7 energy

In Elise - you will find a single 6BL7 per side as power tubes does not have enough "drive" to bring forth the magic.

The magic "starts" at 2x 6BL7 (or 6BX7) per side.

Shame that the Elise heater transformer was not just a little beefier...

So that is a no go. For power ratings and sound.
 
I will stick with two 6BL7's per socket then. One flat and one X in each. It is hard to imagine a better sound.
 
Has anyone compared 6BL7's to 300B power tubes? Using twin 6BL7's per socket really reminds me of all the times I have listened to a 300B amp. The Woo WA5 and Glenn custom 300B. It is close. I'm sure the 300B is better however the 6BL7 is a lot closer than 6AS7G.

I have a set of RCA 6SN7 greyglass from WW2 (1943) sitting in my cupboard doing nothing. If they will be compatible in the 6BL7 adapter I will give them a go.

Yes, I found that my particular combination of 6BL7 and 6SN7 sounded sweeter than 2 x2 6BL7. Again, YMMV because of equipment and personal preferences.
 
It's just plug and play, so easy to try it out.

The only 6SN7 I have is the RCA 6SN7. So that is what I will try. I remember liking the RCA a lot. All my other drivers are 6F8G's and 6C8G's.

I tried Mordy's power combo - sounds good, but I suffer from noticeably lower gain, so went back to my favorite combo:

2x (or 3x) 6BX7 (or 6BL7's) per 6AS7 socket and Sylvania 6SN7WGTA (Brown Base) as drivers.

6C8G or 6SL7 has more gain than 6SN7. I wonder if this would help with gain issues.
 
What is the gain difference between 6BL7 and 6SN7 or 6SL7?
I have a box of 21 sets of RCA 6C8G (42 tubes) with the nice NU styled plates. It could be a way to make use of them.
