I hate RCA 6BL7 tubes and tried my best to avoid. Don't know why.

I find the RCA's sound the same as the other brand 6BL7's. Which is excellent.

I'm using a set now with a set of Sylvania's. 1 of each in each power socket. Extremely nice. I'm not changing these until they are worn out.

I'm with ya, Badas...

I use a wide variety of 6BL7's and think they all sound excellent.

Much prefer them to 6AS7, mine are staying in, too :-)

Love live 6BL7's :-)

As I have mentioned in Glenn's thread, I like the 6BX7  more than 6BL7 also. So much, that I have purchased 3 pairs more (1 pair RCA, 1 pair Sylvania and 1 pair Pinnacle.) I do not miss the 6AS7's one bit. Yet.

  Hi lukeap69,

As far as I know, Pinnacle was a re-brander. Do you have any idea who manufactured that tube?

Please call me Arnold.

Langrex told me that these are also Sylvania's with question mark and I hope they are so I can have four Sylvania 6BX7's then...

Hi Wreckgar7,

It depends.

Four 6BL7 tubes draw 6A. The Elise is rated for a total of 6.8A - the current draw of all tubes together added up is what matters. So if you use two driver tubes that draw 0.8A together (0.4A each), you are safe. The only driver tubes that come to mind in this category are the C3g at 0.375A each.

If you tried a pair of 6SN7 as drivers (0.6A each), you will have a total current draw of 7.2A. It may work just fine, but you are at your own risk. Some people have tried it without problems, but you have to monitor that the amp does not get too hot.

Hello @Wreckgar7,

I have run 2x 6BL7 per 6AS7 socket and a pair of 6SN7 in Elise for the total draw of 7.2 amps, draw, and use a small fan to circulate air underneath the amp.

Have not had a problem.

However, if you want to be EXTRA SAFE, I would suggest you use a pair of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-Octal-Special-saver-for-6SN7-6BL7-ect-/191741357847

And supply the two drivers with external heat, to keep Elise @ 6.0 amps, supplying only the 4x 6BL7's (1.5 amps x 4)

I do still recommend a small fan for Elise, she does tend to run rather warm.

Cheers....
