For 6BL7 tube users

Hi attmciverizon,

Let's just say that we think alike.....

BTW, there is a consumer site that is called gethuman, com. It will list the best telephone numbers to get through to large corporations and businesses if you want to file a complaint and call customer service. On their website they have 5-6 of the most common phone numbers for complaints - Verizon and Sprint are on this list.

I'll add a plus one to 6BL7 and 6BX7, I'm using singles in place of 6080 and they are just the plain GE 6BX7 but they are so clean I have improved blackness to the background and that BASS so tight. I'm tryin' to workout exactly what is that allows the air/instrument separation to be more apparent. These are the differences that struck me in the first few hours listening to some familiar tracks and I had intended just a couple of hours but listened for more like four.  I've got the pair of GE 6BX7 x-plates in now and some Sylvania 6BL7GT flat-plates to try next.

Almost forgot, Thanks for this thread

I'm just using singles as well. I have the adapter for two per socket and I could hear a difference in sound. It is slightly better.

However I've decided to keep life simple. Using one looks tidier (those adapters are kinda crappy) and one sounds close enough to perfect for me. I also like how cool 6BL7 keeps my amp.

Well I am lucky that I can use 6 without a need for an adapter! Haha.
Thanks to @glenn2359 .

You have the ultimate 6BL7 amp....have you ever heard planar using six 6BL7/6BX7 ?

My HD800 sounds wonderful with just four tubes, but I am thinking my Ori would sound even better using six.

Haha.

I have heard PM-2 and they sounded very thick. Not too bad with 4-6AS7 Chatham or 2-6336.

I have heard LCD-3 briefly also. I'd rather pair them with my Ragnarok TBH.

My guess is that this is a Tung-Sol, made in the USA. :)

Could be. Otherwise, why they want to print U.S.A. (twice) on the tube. :)

Do you have link to a picture of TS 6BX7? I believe JazzVinyl has one. here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/806043/for-6bl7-tube-users/75(That's a TS 6bl7).
However, mine is a round getter, blackplate, identical top and bottom insulating spacer. The box also looks legit. So still not 100% convinced.

About ten years ago, a NOS 421A and 5998 cost for about $85 and $25 a piece, respectively. Now?

Eventually, people will have to use alternative tubes which can provide similar performance at more reasonable price.Hint?

Oh, yes. I totally forgot that poster. Thanks, Ken.

Mine looks very similar to those.

Hope we can have a picture of the bottom structure of the tube.

Hi attmci,

Over on the Elise thread people have discovered wonderful alternative tubes that are spectacular sounding: the EL11 and EL12 tubes.

The EL11 draws 0.9A and the EL12 1.2A. They require special adapters that are a pleasure to use compared to the standard octal adapters - an easy and  positive snap-in fit.

The EL11 and EL12 are mainly ST tubes, but there is a smaller and newer version of the EL12 called EL12N. This tube is not expensive and performs almost as well (or as well).

All I can say is that these tubes get everything right and may outshine icons like the expensive 6SN7 variants and the GEC 6AS7.
They were made by Telefunken, Valvo, Philips, Siemens, Loewe-Opta and RFT. The EL12N comes with many names, but they are all the same and only made by RFT.

They are all good; maybe the nod given to Telefunken tubes.

All these tubes can also be combined with other favorite tubes of yours.

IMHO well worth a try if you are so inclined.
