Also does the Edirol use some sound chip like Envy24 or it's only a DAC? Could I use this with games? I'm mostly interested in using it with music, but ocasionally I play 3D games and wondered if it is compatible with DirectSound3D despite it has not acceleration like the SB cards.

DeBilbao, about the resampler and CPU usage, you could try using the Secret Rabbit Code Resampler (download here) and see if you get less CPU usage with it.

There are three options (Best, Medium and Fast Sync Interpolator). Best may be as slow as the default, but I think the Medium/Fast options will be fast while still delivering the sound with quality.
