Focal Bathys - Wireless ANC Over-Ear Headphone

I can totally understand your point. I thought the same with my first smartphone with built-in battery. I think there will be more and more products with much shorter life-time. This is not a good development, but i think this is the future development. I think to buy a headphone like the Focal Bathys for 800Eur is the same like an smartphone. It won't last forever. Like you said the TV lifetime is relativley short (btw: My 60inch Sony TV is now 7 years old and still in nice condition). But could be that Focal has a battery change program like Apple. I have no illusions that I will still be using this headphones in 10 years, but the chance for 5 years would be nice.
If I drop this kind of cash, I figure I have to run the Bathys into the ground. Since they're at the higher end of the Bluetooth price range, it's not practical to me to ditch them in a year or two for a cheaper TOTL consumer model from Sony, Bose, or a newcomer that might perform better (ANC). Curious to see what Focal does to support accessories. I feel their pads, cables, and cases are fairly overpriced. I don't know if their repair team is gearing up for the possibility of swapping out batteries, although they could probably just outsource the whole thing to an electronics repair specialist and keeps stock of the batteries.

Gonna follow the reviews very closely, of course.

Resolve's initial review is up and it also contains measurements - https://forum.headphones.com/t/focal-bathys-wireless-hifi-headphones-with-active-noise-cancellation-official-discussion-thread/18861/34

Here's it comparing to the 5909.

Looks pretty nice overall though that dip at 900Hz weirds me out a bit. There's a smattering of reviews coming out now that suggest better resolution from the Bathys over the 5909's which is equal parts exciting and concerning since I've made the 5909's my daily driver lol. Would love to audition the Bathys but i suspect it will take quite some time for places nearby to get hands on a set and the price tag is a bit prohibitive to buy a set and return it.

Man, between the XM5, Momentum 4, Px7 S2, Px8, 5909, and the Bathys, 2022 is really shaping up to be the year of the wireless ANC.

My pair are on the way. I know what I'm going to want and I'm not sure this exists. I nice slinky USB C to USB C cable ala a nice litz cable (purely for ergonomics). Does such a thing exist?

The only USB C->C cable that I know that is long enough and flexible enough to serve as headphone cable is this Oyaide D+ one, specifically made for DJs:

(It even says "Silver Plated Oxygen Free Copper Conductor USB Digital Audio Cable" on the cable)

Based on the measurements the ML is probably the better sound profile for me. I might trial the bathys at some point just to check them out.

From a non audio perspective, I like their looking the least personally of the near kilobuck headphones.

The ML sounds excellent. That 900hz dip on the Bathys also worries me, but I'll find out how much it bothers me once I'm able to give it a listen.

I'm also not a fan of the design of the Bathys, I actually think they're kinda ugly and look cheap with that cheese grater look (and I feel the same way about all the other Focal headphones). But they look like they might be very comfortable, and that's much more important to me.

This is the USB-C cable I like to use with headphones:

It's soft touch, super flexible, doesn't hold it's shape after being wrapped, and is so far very reliable.

Also smartphone usage. The best smartphones, and most popular ones, dont use LdAC. The rather rubbish xperia phones do but they're less than 1% of the market.

I think its wise to leave it out and so few users will deploy ldac
Where do you get this idea? LDAC has been in the root Android Open Source Project since 2017, was baked into Android 8.0 (we are now on Android 13) and is supported by virtually every Android device released since then. It's not just Xperia, almost every Android supports it. I have a two Chinese phones, one a mini phone, total no-name, both support LDAC and it and works fine. Samsung, the single largest manufacturer, also support LDAC, and they DON'T support the higher AptX codecs (HD, Adaptive).

The only mainstream phone that doesn't support LDAC is iPhone.

I think you’ve answered this yourself in the very last sentence 😉😜

For those in the EU, my dealer shared a €50 discount code for the Bathys with me that I am allowed to share and that is valid for 14 days only. PM me if you're interested. I am not in any way financially involved here. Just sharing.

For anyone that pre-ordered with Headphones.com, our first 10 Bathys were shipped yesterday to the first 10 people that ordered. We also got notification this morning that our first real shipment is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (but its FedEX so might arrive on Friday). We'll be receiving enough units to fulfill all of our remaining pre-orders as well as anyone looking to grab an in-stock pair!
