I'm going to assume that the HE400 will be pleasing for both music AND gaming. What I really want to know is since I'm ordering the fiio e17 with them, where does that leave me with my ASUS Phoebus sound card?
 
You guys already kindly pointed out that I Should be selling off my gimmicky Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset, but does this mean I should also sell off my ASUS Xonar Phoebus 7.1 Sound card since I am getting the fiio e17, since my phoebus sound card is essentially a DAC, so I'll be either using the Phoebus or the Fiio and not both? My other option would be to cancel the e17 and save $140, sticking to the sound card.
 
ps If I got the e17, would it work just straight connecting to my ipod for mobile use? (yes I newb!)

The ASUS card has a built in amp, if it is anything like the one on the STX it will have high output impedance but it is decent.

Well if I kept the e17 and changed the HE400 for a more "closed" portable headset, that strategy would make a lot more sense, would it not? What do you guys recommend for something portable, is the HE400 still the best choice? I don't mind going up a little in budget if it means going for denon or something
 
Or.. should I just stick to the open he400s with e17, and use the e17 when im not at my computer since i have the asus phoebus sound card. At least the sound card helps with the surround sound feeling in gaming, right? Ever since i placed the order last night, I've been wondering if I've made a mistake going for an open headset. I was really big on the portability and noise isolation thing, not to mention bass... but everyone's reviews were just too strong for the HE400 and the community knows best. Sigh what to do!

Try the HE400 for a few days, and if you don't love them get the PRO900 instead if the return policy from Head-Direct is decent. Keep the E17 either way and see if you happen to like it better than the Asus card, and keep it on you to use on computers when you're out and about (at a library, at school or work, etc.)

Do you guys think between the fiio e17 alpen and the asus sound card, I'll be able to drive the HE400's no issues? I mean I know the e17 is only $140, but the sound card was $200 and I figured I was in good shape but now I am not certain!

I've read conflicting reports that he Fiio E17 can't drive the HE-400 to their full potential. Can anyone clarify whether there is any truth to this?

The UPS tracking numbers provided to me did not work, when I tried using them at the UPS website for tracking #'s. I sent an e-mail to the Hifiman e-mail for shipping found on their website. Here is the response I got, maybe it will make sense to someone but certainly not I:

Your HE400 ship from DE USA via usps, the tracking number is CFxxxxxxxxxUS.
The others ship from IL USA  via usps too,the tracking number is LJxxxxxxxxxUS.
Since sometimes USPS tracking system is not working so that you can not track the package, it should work fine and delivery in time. Pls let me know if you do not receive anything in 15 to 20 business days, then we will do another shipping.
