"Kid A" will apparently be with us soon...

http://www.msnbc.com/news/840252.asp

Here's a taste:
Quote:

ROME, Nov. 26 — A controversial Italian fertility specialist said Tuesday that he expects the first-ever cloned human being to be born in January. The specialist, Severino Antinori, made his latest claim at a news conference in Rome, sparking a new round of controversy and skepticism.
IN THE PAST, Antinori has made similar claims of pregnancies in his hush-hush human cloning program. Tuesday’s claim, however, was the first to hint that a cloned fetus appeared to be viable and was nearing birth.
“It’s the 33rd week,” said Antinori, who runs a fertility clinic in Rome. “I expect the birth for the first week of January.”
Antinori said he could not give any more details about the procedure other than to say the embryo was “in a good condition.”

No word on whether the "666" on it's forehead is visible yet...

I don't believe this. Is this the crazy alien/cult guy, part of that group? Or is this someone else? I really don't believe this.

I sound like a babbling idiot, but I'm really hoping that this guy's just bluffing.

TRACK RECORD
The 55-year-old embryologist was previously best known for his work relating to in vitro fertilization — notably for enabling women in their 50s and 60s to have children. He made world headlines in 1994 when he helped a 62-year-old woman have a child, and supports the cloning of human beings as a way for infertile couples to have children.

yeah, but according to cnn, this guy said earlier this year in February that women were pregnant with clone children. That would put the due date in November, and he hasn't explained that. Here's hoping. . .

great, more humans. i wonder what they expect to gain from this.. there is a lot to be said from the "environment vs. genes" argument. i once did a paper on this (hey, i remember something from high school!) about the cloned sheep and i remember one article saying something like:

just because we use einstein's genes doesn't mean we will grow another einstein. one false step in his life could make him end up a drug addict instead of a genius.

just something to think about.

I think some people are so selfish they don't care how many more humans they add to this already overcrowded planet.

If I beleived in God, I would imagine God striking down this clone and the people responsible.

I'd clone all of the characters from the sit-com Night Court (including Mel Torme), but tweak the genes slightly so they'd be Bizarro Night Court where they'd not only be unjust, but also funny.

I'd like to see clones end up like the ones in multiplicity, each one being less perfect than the last.

We need to clone a few Judes... Think about it. While he's busy with everyday life, the clones could be finishing the reviews

I'd clone the guys from Loverboy. Their potential just wasn't quite reached.
