sup guys. I have done quite a bit of research and ended up with these two headphones as my final two for approximately $150 or less.  For both cans, there are so many positive and negative things said that it is extremely hard pulling the trigger on one.  I listen to mostly rap/hip hop but also listen to many others like pop and ballads.

So what i am asking is for an objective answer for a subjective matter. (i know, oxymoron). but what i mean is an answer with as little bias as possible.  also, let me know if there are other headphones that you really think i should consider in that price range.  Currently, i am leaning a little towards the m50s because i really love how it looks
Thanks!

I think the M50s are a bit more versatile and a bit less harsh. If you listen to mainly trance music I would say 780 all the way, but since your range seems kind of wide, M50s for sure.

Not recessed mids but just not a very exciting presentation. Bad soundstage on the M 50's too. 780 by a large margin.

I recently tried this....k167, sounds like an all rounder with a good soundstage.
Check it out.

I have the 780 and the M50.

For rap and hip hop, I definitely think the 780s are better. I love the slogic soundstage effect coupled with the more pronounced bass. It's more engaging than the M50s. For other genres, the 780s do very well, although I could see how some people might prefer the M50s.
