First of all, hi everyone new member here.
smily_headphones1.gif

I'm in the process of buying a pair of headphones and a soundcard (probably the E-MU 0404). I'm interested on the Sennheiser HD555 or HD595 but I haven't made my mind up yet. I already read some reviews but I don't know if the 595's are worth the extra money (and I'm kind of low on money right now). I don't have a preamp and don't plan on buying one for now. The headphones are to be used either on my computer or on my Sony Walkman D-EJ775.
Anyone that had experience with these cans can help me make my mind up?

PS: I'm also open to other recommendations but I really dig these two models.

I don't plan to use them outside.

I guess you got that idea from the Sony CD player. The thing is I like to listen to music on bed before I sleep that's when I'll use the portable CD player.

You'll be surprised. I have seen numerous people walking around with HD555, HD580 and HD590 on the street. Crazy, I know, but it happens

I don't think I can get Grado's where I live (Portugal) and I'd like to try them before I buy. They also seem fragile and I think I prefer circumaural headphones because they're more comfortable.

I just got a pair of the 595s, and I was very disappointed. I was looking for something less harsh than my Grado 225s, but after Grados, the 595s sound muddy and veiled. Although I've never heard them, I've read a lot of posts here that say the 555s are better, especially given that they're cheaper. Good luck.

Really? I'd like to read some of those posts... HD555 is substantially worse int he bass region.
