I was wondering if the Spitfire optical in was a 3.5mm or Toslink socket and are cables easy to find, preferably 90 deg angle ones for compactness?

I'm gonna get one very shortly so I want to be prepared

Hi smeggy
The Spitfire is using Toslink cable.
I seldom seen 90 degree Toslink cables, but you can find the straight normal ones in almost every decent audio shop.

Sweet, thanks for the info guys.
I'm completely new to optical/coax etc. I still live in the RCA world

I think the closest I've seen to a hifi shop so far is a rat shack. I gotta go hunting, I'm sure Seattle must have one somewhere... to be honest I've been almost purposely not looking as I could get myself in deep doo doo with the other half if I get started again

Rat Shack will likely sell a perfectly acceptable plastic cable. These are fine for up to 48KHz over a couple of meters or less. If you plan on going for a longer run or somehow you're going to manage to input a signal at higher than 48KHz, a glass cable would be a decent idea (and you're probably best off going to one of the online specialists for one).

Ok, call me dumb but how do you go about ordering from Firestone?

You enter your info but then you have to do the Paypal thing, do you just copy the order info into the Paypal note section or what? And how do you know when things are working or not, I really wish these places would use Visa or some other 'on-site' payment method as one screw up and your out $300.

What did you do?

Just so you know, I have never used paypal myself so I really don't know.

If I remember correctly, I ordered the DAC and then I waited for an email from firestone. They basically said my order was ready and that I needed to pay the payment with paypal. So, I clicked on their paypal link and paid it with my credit card. From there you just enter billing address and credit number. Using my credit card through paypal is really easy since I didnt have to sign up for a paypal account.

Yeah, the ordering process sucks rocks, but the company seem very good, just a bad website. You get a link to Paypal after making the order which is supposed to start a Paypal transaction with the correct recipient and amount, but it's badly formatted and doesn't work right. I just pulled out the email address it wanted to use and created the Paypal payment myself, and that was fine. But yeah, as long as you manage to send the payment to the correct email address, everything will be fine, and you will likely get the kit _very_ fast (Taiwanese mail service rocks, on the basis of my experience - I ordered my DAC and amp on a Thursday afternoon PST, they arrived on Monday!)

It's gonna be awesome I'm sure. My computer optical out card arrived yesterday, my cables arrive Monday and I'm hoping the Spitfire will turn up by then too. Tuesday should be the big day when it all get's hooked together and I'm exprecting great things, this stuff already sounds great so it can only get better.
