FiR Audio Project K – Controlled Chaos, Refined Impact (vs. My Daily: Legend Evo)
So I’ve been living with the Empire Ears Legend Evo as my daily for a while now. When I say I’m used to
HUGE slam, I mean Evo-level bass, chest-hammering, room-shaking, festival-grade impact. That’s my baseline.
Going into the FiR Audio Project K, I was honestly expecting to be underwhelmed at first. And yeah, the first 10 minutes? The slam felt almost too polite. Coming straight off Evo, it didn’t immediately punch me in the chest the same way.
But then I really sat with it... and that’s when it clicked.
The Slam (and the Shift in Perception)
Project K doesn’t try to out-slam Evo. It doesn’t need to. What it does instead is hit with speed, control, and surgical precision. The slam is still very real, deep sub-bass, satisfying midbass punch, but it’s cleaner, tighter, and faster to decay. It’s like Evo brings the
earthquake, but Project K brings the
shockwave.
Once your ears recalibrate from the Evo’s sheer force, you start to appreciate how Project K’s bass is sculpted, not just boosted. It punches hard, then backs off instantly, no bleed, no smear. Just crisp, high-speed impact.
Mids & Treble
Coming from Evo, the mids on Project K actually feel a touch more open and clear. Vocals are more centered and slightly more forward, with a natural tone. There’s more air in the upper mids and the treble lifts things just enough to keep the whole presentation fresh and detailed, but still non-fatiguing.
Treble is smoother than something like Odin or EXT, but has enough sparkle to complement the bass-heavy signature. Think detail without sharpness.
Technical
- Imaging is pinpoint accurate. You can track everything.
- Soundstage is spacious but realistic, it’s not artificially wide, just right.
- Speed and control are where it flexes the most. Transients are so clean, especially for how much bass it’s pushing.
Conclusion
If Evo is the front row at a festival, Project K is being behind the decks, surrounded by bass, but with clarity and control. It’s more refined, more balanced, but still brings the energy when it needs to.
This is slam for grown-ups. It took a minute to register coming from the raw power of Evo, but once it settled in, I got addicted to how tight and articulate the Project K is. It doesn’t try to outmuscle Evo, it outmaneuvers it.
