Is anyone else having problems with Spotify on their X7 (first gen)?
Spotify suddenly (in the last 2 or 3 weeks) sounds terrible, distorted and with background noise. It is only Spotify, the Fiio music player sounds fine and my premium Spotify account sounds fine on everything else (Sony tablet, IPhone and Kindle Fire).
I've tried everything from deleting to fresh install to completely reinstalling the firmware (wiping the cache first) on the Fiio but nothing seems to work.
There doesn't seem to be anything on the Forums about it so it might just be a problem with my Fiio.
Any ideas?

Definitely just you, mine has the latest spotify and it's fine other than super slow at times and freezes, once you are in it you don't want to go to home screen and do other things. try install that custom firmware by fidelizer, did you try reset the whole player and erase and then maybe try get an older version spotify from the fiio app store instead.
i got a hugo 1 now and i been using it a lot. definitely a class higher than the x7 and m11. but then it cost a lot more and it's much bigger. the x7 + am5 sounds better with T1 and hd800 than from the balanced port from m11.
i think it's not a hardware problem since you have right sound from other programs so nothing to worry.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I've tried everything possible but just noticed in the equivalent Fiio X7ii forum that several X7ii users are having the same problem. The solution appears to be to revert to an older version of Spotify. sen2htj has recommended Spotify version 8.5.64.1046 and this does work (albeit seeming to be a bit clunky and slow).
Trying to find a reputable source for past versions of spotify as Spotify doesn't seem to allow you to go back a version!

Hi, I am a little late to the thread, but am extremely interested in jail breaking my X7. Fiio is no longer supporting this model and its present setup (stock) is just not working anymore (system hangs and continuous nag screens about lack of space). Is there some sort of online walk through of how to wipe and jail break ( and installwith a new version of Android)?
Thanks in advance,
Bobsen

Anyone know if this 1st gen X7 can be "cracked open" without suffering likely damage to the unit or screen, and then if the internal microSD is not soldered to the circuit board but can be swapped for a larger one?

Where the SD card slot is you can see on the photos.
Though, meybe its best to ask Fiio: https://www.head-fi.org/members/fiio.84589/
Ask this profile on PM how to open it and any other questions. They do not look all Fioo topics, so they might miss your question in this thread here.
Much thanx. The photo of the circuit board says it all. I fear what I hoped to do won't be possible. It doesnt look like there is a mSD card in an internal, swappable but non-exposed, slot. Other than the external slot everything is soldered down. Okay, scratch that idea.
Hi, by accident i found that fidelizer (windowsX) has produced modified ROM for fiio x7 and x7ii - i decided to try the x7 version and am surprised by the additional space around instruments/voices and generally more fluid sound and while this might be my imagination as it is impossible to test the new rom against the old fiio version, i am pleased with the change - it also promises slightly better battery life.
Google used it's way back machine and gave me the top link when I searched for a custom ROM for my X7. The X7 is super slow and laggy already. The comment from harpo1 is the very opposite of what 'm looking for in a custom ROM. So forget that.
Does anyone know of another custom ROM for the X7. A stripped down more efficient one? I don't use the Fiio music player but rather UAPP as it has a great parametric EQ addons. So 3rd party app install is my only requirement.

I tried opening the x7 first gen since i have one with screen "fog" in on the edges i wanted to see how easy it was to change the screen. i wasn't able to seperate the case from the screen circuit. i was able to lift it a bit then it got tough. didn't want to break anything i put it back. the plastic area on the player where the module attaches to is quite fragile. the screws there don't make it go in too tight, as there is a gap. i now own two x7 and two x7ii. i like the buttons on the x7 original more. one of my x7 ii has dial problem, when volume up it goes down so have to dial it up fast to get volume up or use screen control, volume down is better, curtain clicks doesn't really do anything. i think maybe dirty or something inside or solder problem. i didn't try opening the ii yet. they all working still great and battery holds great charge. i think fiio uses good cells in these. one thing i want to try is the am3d module. they are expensive and hard to find. cost more than the players itself when buying used. i am very happy with the am5 module. i don't use the x7 first gen as it is too slow and still buggy. the ii i installed japanese firmware just to get the 4gb sector. 2gb runs out easily with cache data. i had the m11 for a while too and they got rid of these limitations. wish they can update these x7 more. they sounded better than m11 non pro and is dirt cheap now. i probably get rid of 3 out of the 4 i got and get something else later. i even have a x5 first gen and i quite like the sound, it has a non fatigue sound. i actually only had fiio portables before started off with the x5iii. even had an x3iii. overall i like the x7 the most. one day gonna pick up the m15 when it's cheap enough. sound these days hasn't improved much in years, you can get an old x7 and get the new stuff and there is really not much difference. right now my most favorite combination is the x7 ii + u12 ADEL, it sounds a lot better than x7ii + am5 + HD820. i still didn't have time to take out my audiogd stuff yet to see what the hd820 sounds like since i got it lol.
