With the new beta, using DAC function on my Macbook Pro doesn't seem so broken now. I'll update if things change, but it seems to be improved. I was actually able to plug in my X7 without distortion on startup.

Quick question for anyone using X7 as a DAC.

  • Linux - anyone have this working under current beta fw in DAC mode.  I haven't tried for a long time - but now can't get it working.  Should be driver-less.  My kernel version is 4.4.0-59-generic.  X7 is recognised, I can select, but no volume.  I tried using both pavucontrol and alsamixer - but its telling me no hardware controls.  So I have no way of trying to unmute the device (which I suspect is what is happening).  If anyone is using it successfully with Linux - please let me know (along with distro), as I'm quite jhappy doing a reinstall from Mint back to pure Debian if needed.

Thanks in advance.  Just want to know if its my set-up issue before trouble-shooting further.

This issue also same on X5iii - so suspect its not the actual device.

Using Trisquel GNU/Linux 7.0 with linux-libre 4.9.3 kernel, alsa, and CMUS as player, it works.
still not with 24bit files though.

I'm having problems with the character 'ç','ã'. Chinese characters appear in its place.

Hi Fred,

We will PM you to get the details , and we will try to revise it in our next FW.

Hi Fiio.

Not all of my album covers/art are displaying. I'm on beta 11. I split place jpeg or ong inside folder.

What info should I send to you and how?

Thanks.

My subjective view would be that AM1 and AM3 are the two most neutral.

AM2, AM5 and AM2A all have varying degrees of warmth

FW. 3.1.3
1) There is problem with DAC (and sometimes in fiio player) mode. 1-2 seconds of the 1 song in the playlist is not played. The same thing going on with the video in any player - VLC, WM etc...
2) Russian characters are not displayed correctly - they showed as chinese symbols.
3) After all this months, can somebody explain Fiio control panel:
a) what does methods of connection means? What do they influence? (reliable, relaxed, safe etc...)
b) What does buffer siz3e of asio means?
4) When new themes (such as leafs and myst) are going to be returned? I really miss it. Without it, X7 is kinda lifeless.
5) Also, after so many months, can somebody explain, why X7 creates LOST.DIR in internal space as well in SD card? Really annoying thing which has never disappeared.
6) Battery saving mode is switching off after it is connected to the charger or lap-top. It does not came back to the same mode after disconnection. Is it possible to make X7 return to the battery saving mode?Is is possible to create variety of options on how this mode would be displayed (i.e. I do not really like orange color, or it to occupy top and back lines of the system).
7) In the new added theme, I cannot scroll volume up or down fast. I spend 5-10 seconds correcting the sound. In Colorfly c4 pro I spend like a second. If I'm not mistaken, in the last versions and in old theme it can be scrolled fastly.
8) I will add something after more tests.

This was also my take and understanding on them. Thank you for confirming this for me as I never heard all of them!

I heard Muses02 AMPs before so I had an idea of how it might sound.

One last question about this.

If you were to compare the level of warmth of all X7 modules and X5ii, where would you place X5ii?

I have all 5. I like warmth. I like AM2A best...if that's of any help.

Also imagined that there will be a ton of people loving this, which is great!

I search almost exclusively for neutral signatures, but as time has indicated - many people really love warm signatures.

I can't say for 100% sure but in unix based systems the "lost" (lost&found, LOST.DIR, etc) folder exists so that when you have an allocation problem on the volume, files that can't be allocated to a specific folder (so "lost") are placed on it - that could be a result of a system crash or others reasons where utils like "fsck" are used to check/repair consistency.

My 2 cents
