What about easier to drive planar magnetic headphones, which seem have that flat impedance curve? Just curious.

I have a set of HE-560s, which are supposedly leaning to the "easy-to-drive" side of things. They benefit substantially from the increased power of the AM5 and even more so with the increased voltage swing in the balanced output of the AM3. The AM1, even at full volume, could not drive these at all well - so I doubt a line out would cut the mustard.

That's funny, I don't ever remember the 560's being characterized as easy to drive.

Curious if anyone has actually tried the HD800 or HD800s balanced on the AM3?  Wonder how good it sounds on AM3

I own an AM3, HD800 and balanced cable. I'm trying to prove it this weekend and compare the sound of HD800 with my Xonar Essence One DAC Amplifier not balanced vs X7 AM3 Balanced.

Looking forward to your verdict!

I was actually asking about what would happen if I plugged in some planars into the line-out to listen (or at least I was asking about what other people's experiences were), especially now that there is variable line-out volume.

But I do agree with you on how well AM5 and AM3 drive relatively more inefficient planars - I found that my HE1000 benefited a lot from the AM5 vs the AM1, and even more from the AM3 when I tried it out on the review tour.

I sold my 560's awhile back, remember it being moderately difficult to drive. Though I can say that the Amp3 is really quite good with both the Ether Flow and Flow C's. I'm stating the volume anywhere from 90-98 with Flow and 96-103 with the Flow C.

Are you getting any clipping with recordings that have a high dynamic range?

Buying guide for X7 amp module and further module plan
                                  – Translated from James Sina Blog

The multiple choices of X7 amp modules -- AM0/AM1/AM2/AM3/AM5/AM2A might make customer feel confused about which is the most suitable one. Today, let’s talk about this topic a little bit.

Firstly, let me briefly introduce the main features and pros/cons of each amp module.

1. Non-Amped Module AM0
It is specially made for stacking enthusiasts. For example, users can connect X7 with AM0 to Mojo (see picture below). The advantage of AM0 is to save money and space for the stacking enthusiasts.

May I ask what cable was used to connect X7 to Mojo? Thanks.

Only a couple of times, a bit of "hardening of tone" on big transients, that was in SE mode. Onthe Amp3 in balanced though, nothing yet.

Is it just me or did FiiO design the X7 so that when the screen is out, you can't adjust the volume down but can adjust volume up?

Are you getting this problem with the X7 as a regular player or a DAC? Both?
