Maybe if it used a USB 3.1 interface and the medium used could stream fast enough. Perhaps some form of mini-Solid State Drive.

The USB3.1 interface is more than fast enough for any data transfers. In fact, it's way faster than the SATA3 connections. But how long can it last when using something on that interface?

Yes to be fair USB 3 and a RW speed of about 20-30MB./s sustained should be enough.  However when you start using higher bandwidth files the you will need more speed. Power consumption may need be need to evaluated and reliability of storage memory also.

That's my point. Unless if DSD files and the like require a higher bandwidth than what the SATA3 interface provides, we won't have a problem. USB3.1 is much faster than SATA3. As for energy consumption, I have no clue. I would expect it to be WAY efficient compared to other interfaces but I have no data sheets on the matter.

Video is not something I really touched on and you're right to 20-30MB/s is probably overkill however this could be optimised for performance.

I don't know the maths for 24/96 as 5.1 surround sound however I suspect you would need more than 6 MB/s to sustain reads and keep things stable.

USB 3.1 is specified to have a higher output, much more of a quantum leap than USB 2 to USB 3 was.

Happy reading...

USB3 should be completely fine in regards to the data transfer speed.

As for power consumption, I think that USB3.1 should be quite efficient but I can be wrong. I'll leave that to the hardware engineer at FiiO and such. I'm studying to be a software engineer so this is not necessarily my field lol. Though I do love me hardware.

Any plans at all whatsoever to see a demo in London CanJam?
wouldn't that be fabulous?
And the Questyle QP1. And the Cayin N5. Perfect moment to make the right choice. Maybe for 2016 edition.

Thanks for sharing. Looks great, except for the lack of micro-sd expansion.

I would buy a Xiaomi Mi now, if it would had had a IPS screen instead of plain LCD.

But you are totally right, mi note destroys it at a similar price. I wonder what was exactly the target audience of a marshall phone? It is expensive, has a mini factor, and is supposed to be a smartphone, so it should support gaming, web, photos, screen and so on. As far as sound goes, I think that the main card is still in Fiio's hand because X7 is modular, and as far as I know, the implementation is music only, so I am still all in for hearing a X7 when it comes out.
