FiiO R7 All-In-One Desktop Android HiFi Music Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

Hey All,

this sounds exactly the device I need to replace my topping stack (a50s, d50 & p50 psu) assuming it can do this specific case:

I currently have a Raspberry Pi running moOde (https://moodeaudio.org/) which is connected via an optical connection to the d50. I control playback by an app on my android phone.

So what I want is to run the same with r7 but run the app on the r7 while it is in optical input mode. Thus I wouldn't need to use my phone and I assume the r7 screen can be always on.

Can that happen or does optical input mode stop the use of android apps?

Thanks

-Mat
Hi Mat,

If you use Optical input mode, R7 will enter an independent interface, and Android apps will not be available at this time.

I found the moOde can support file sharing function, maybe you can use FiiOMusic to get the song directly via SMB protocol?

I guess that's a possibility - can you tell me how to do that in FiiOMusic then please? I already have an M11 so can try it out on that

Thanks

What I like about Moode is that it can select a rando album and play it - can't do that in FiiO Music can we?

I have a large library (10000+ albums) and if I don't use random album I tend to end up playing the same few dozen :)

Hi Mat,

You can try the Media server in FiiO Music to see if it works.

Hi Mat,

Currently, FiiO Music only supports random songs, but not random albums. We will evaluate to add this function in future.

Please do - I second his request for that ability, alongside the random song option.
Thank you for your feedback, we will increase the priority of this function.

Hi Mat,

I wonder why you'd like to do that.

If I get this correctly, you'd like your Raspberry pi4 (and I assume it has a Digi hat card) running moOde to feed the Fiio R7 with optical input.

I see the thing, but I do not get why you'd like to do that, as the R7's scope would be to replace the Raspberry pi4 device.

Unless you'd like to use the R7 to feed the D50. Then I assume you'd use the R7 digital OUTput and not INput...

And I guess (I don't have the device) that selecting that output will not restrict your access to Android apps.

But I don't see why you'd want to use the R7 with a Pi4 and/or with a D50 anyways as the R7 is more or less designed to replace both of those devices.

And if Fiio does the job correctly, you won't miss any feature in moOde and you won't hear a difference between your DAC and the Fiio R7's DAC (not sure you'd be able to hear a difference between ESS9038 and ESS9068 at this point).

Hi,

Would like to ask 3 questions :

- 1°) can you confirm that you are working on a firmware upgrade that will allo the R7 to be used as an "independent" renderer to be remotely controlled with thrid party software like BubbleUPnP or mConnect or Symfonium ;
- 2°) if so, what is the priority level of this feature ?
- 3°) can you give an ETA for this feature (more or less) ?

That will allow me to decide if I should save to get it and how much time I have to do so

Regards.

I would like to add
- 4) The ability to find the R7 in Tidal Connect list of devices.

Hi, if everything goes well, this function will come before the end of next month.

Thank you! To be clear though, in album shuffle mode, the songs within each album should not be shuffled, but played in their normal order. Only the album selection itself should be random.
Fully understand!
