I just use Fiio Cast. When I fire up my amps and DAC's, am at the stack anyway, so it's no problem turning on the cast manually for me.
I also have the Fiio BK1, which isn't wireless, but very convenient when I'm doing critical listening and don't want to have my phone around to distract me

What is Fiio Cast ?

FiiO Cast is the r7 app which allows remote control from tablet/phone using FiiO Control app. Fiio Cast is installed along with the latest r7 firmware. Run Cast on the r7 then access with Control on the tablet.

It needs some more work - some dialogue is still in Mandarin! I'd give it 6/10.

Because it is totally unstable
On the server side, the app quits after some minutes.
And on the client side because even if the device is added to the list you can't reconnect by just selecting it.
But all in all I'm glad that exists.
At least Fiio is listening to some requests which I am not accustomed to coming from another manufacturer.

That's not how it works on mine.
The cast app on the R7 never quits by itself, once opened, it keeps running units I restart the R7.
Yes the client exits quite quickly when not used, but that's fine by me, as it would otherwise eat up bandwidth. I can reconnect with one tap.
Its overall very stable for me, I use it every day all day.

Anydesk is a much better remote controller - but it's complicated to setup on Android.

The R7 works faultlessly as a Roon endpoint. That’s it’s ‘killer app’ IMO.

For about 4 euros it becomes a great endpoint (player) for Logitech Media Server (free and no subs) which achieves as much and more than the overhyped/priced Roon system IMO - still, horses for courses...

You pays your money. You takes your choice. As to your claim that your Logitech Media Server ‘achieves more‘ than Roon, then I’ll call you out there. It doesn’t. In the end, you get what you pay for.

Okay, I get that we all have our favourite systems and specific uses. I suppose one user's killer app is likely to be another's meh?

And once it quits, I can't reconnect to the R7 unless I restart the whole procedure again which means the thing with the QR code.

I do it over wifi not Bluetooth. Maybe that is the reason why ?

QR code? Don't think I've ever used that? I just open the Fiio Cast app, select priority of quality/fluency and press start. That's it.
Then I open the Fiio Control app on my phone and connect, and choose cast if I need that.
Nothing more.
I'm on Wi-fi as well.

That's how it works for me also. No QR involved.

I think it takes time for the R7 to show up.

Or maybe it does not show up on Ethernet connection ?

There I waited a little and got it...

Let's see how it goes if I leave it to that
