M9 seems my dream DAP, support Moov, light weight, good Audio quality(just try my fd' Q5), with 2.5mm balance and not expensive HK$2188
where did you get that price?

But, as I understand it, memory and power limitations of the device made you decide to offer only one application from the list.
If someone decides to install more apps by installing .apk's there won't be enough resources.

And does the M9 has an interface to download and install .apk's?
you have to sideload it via micro SD card i guess...

Yeah, I thought of that but then you still need some kind of explorer app that let you see en also install the file.
I guess the Fiio app won't offer that.

Plus, as I said, if the resources of the device are so small Fiio offers to add only one app it wouldn't be wise to start tinkering with that.
Streaming apps also need cache directories.
If streaming is high on the list for someone I think it's better to look elsewhere. Like Fiio's X series.

I don't see it.
But the M7 has "File Management" which has the style of the Fiio app and which shows songs, pictures and documents.

the Tidal and other 3rd party App can supports offline streaming. so don't worry about it.

btw, although we can pre-install the spotify but you can still download the spotify.apk and install by yourself.

Does this apply to any android app or just the streaming ones? I'm aware that resources are limited so won't be able to install lots of apps. Just one way round the lack of audiobook/podcast support if we can install apks?

yes, the ram/flash is too small to run an open android system. in fact, this Soc is used in Samsung gear S3. so we have to limit the app it can installed.

I really like the M series. I just got the m7 that I'm very happy with and it looks like the m9 looks great on the surface but sound is going to be the only thing that really matters and I used to have the old x5 but I feel like the x line has become too bloated with features which loses the essence of what the x line was all about which was pure sound, even if it's ugly. The m line I feel like goes back to what the x line was ultimately supposed to be which is no frills and just very musical as opposed to needing to be a reference source. I hop my 1qe the m9 sounds musical and fiio continues this trend of good no frills tonality and warmth, and minimalist. The x7 is too complicated

I like the M series too and am also very happy with the M7.
However a DAP should NEVER add colour to the sound and always represent the sound as is (so; reference).
Colour you add with your IEM's or headphones. Or you start tinkering with the Equalizer.

What's happening all too often today is that the music is mixed with extra bass, the player adds warmth and bass and then the IEM's add a lot of bass to boot.
Resulting in an awfull mess.

When will this be released in Asia? Wonder how it will compare to the ibasso dx120....
iBasso is very competitive at the moment and their current lineup is very appealing. The Shanling M5s is also looking good but I'm really interested to see the M9 + the Android UI.

@FiiO Please do not link online streaming services to what is officially available in the country. Make them all available and let people choose from the entire list. Thanks.

Like Hiby R3 (kickstarter version) which has Tidal preinstalled regardless the market and the country.
