It is baffling. Sony still does it though.
I miss the pocket-sized Sony line. I understand their market research led to the more high-end approach in recent years, but something under $150 that is easily portable, can handle podcasts, understands what an album artist means and why people would care, and handles external playlists without gymnastics - these were just table stakes in 2005. Now, we either get small and weird features, or gigantic and feature-filled. *sigh*

There are obvious design influences from the Apple iWatch. So my thinking is... why stop there. You know how Apple jump starts the accessories market for every device they make. So why not have a usb C volume knob adapter for when you want to change the volume.

As far as I understand, this thing has a microphone to answer calls. Can we use the m5 to record and save (in its own memory card) small voice notes?

I am not talking about top quality voice recording, just small voice memos.

Thank you

PS: out of curiosity, do you know why most daps don’t have fm radio? Is it expensive to implement?

Dear friend,

The M5 has recording function. You could record and save the recording file in the card.

Best regards

Looks like all the announcement they did during the event will be year long affair, So far they release only couple of M11 players.

Eagerly waiting for M5 & Q5s.

I'm very happy with my BTR3 - but I have to say this thing looks very intriguing. It just depends on how much they plan to charge us for it. I also really want to read some reviews of the new IEM's.

1. No Aptx LL?

2. I guess there's no way to integrate this unit with Spotify/Tidal? Then it would be the perfect device :/ So if not I'd just use it as BT receiver, then it doesn't seem to be any advantages over the BTR3...

@FiiO

Have you tested the bt strength? I have the hiby r3 that I sometimes use with the btr3, but the r3 has poor bt range. If this device has strong bt signal, I might be interested.

Spotify / Tidal integration at least need some Strip Down barebone Andriod Implementation into the M5, but this device is just a plain Fiio Firmware AFAIK... The advantage over BTR3 (as per spec sheet) (a) battery life increment (b) Offline Stored Music playback capability with portability, anytime anywhere without the need of any other device e,g Phone/Tablet and (c) probably the cheapest transport/ source player from the Fiio though this completely depends on the Price when they announced. I presume it will be priced the same category of Shanling M0.

The advantage over M0 (As per spec revealed)

1. Offer Coax SPDIF Output.
2. Better Codec support in Receiver Mode than M0

M5 looks fantastic, the only bummer for me is the lack of EQ in the Bluetooth receiver mode.

Personally I EQ in my music player anyway, so not a big deal for me at least. And it's good that the DAP section does have an EQ, for me that takes care of both modes. Now all I need is a price and release date to make a purchasing decision or not.
