FiiO M15S Pocket Desktop-Level Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

@FiiO Any suggestions to fix this behavior?
Dear friend,

We checked Apple music again in M15S but did not reproduce the issue you mentioned. Did you switch the output sampling rate to lossless and play the music in high sampling rate?

@FiiO

Hello !

I use most of the time the player in Desktop mode since I got it, plugged to a Windows 11 laptop.
I also use USB DAC mode with MusicBee/Foobar and ASIO drivers.
I think I found a few bugs with DC mode :
  • Case 1:
    • Player plugged into the laptop => Quick charger Pop Up Screen => DC mode enabled
    • Then I start USB DAC mode => DC mode is not working => battery level is going down over time
    • In the Global menu DC mode is on, if I set it off and back on, I got the message "To enable...please plub in the quick charger"
  • Case 2:
    • Player plugged into the laptop => Quick charger Pop Up Screen => DC mode disabled
    • I toggle on DC mode in the drop-down menu
    • Then I start USB DAC mode => DC mode is not working => battery level is going down over time
    • In the Global menu DC mode is on, if I set it off and back on, I got the message "To enable...please plub in the quick charger"
  • Case 3:
    • Player plugged into the laptop => Quick charger Pop Up Screen => Boths options enables (Ultra High mode and Desktop mode)
    • I toggle off DC mode in the drop-down menu => Ultra High Gain stays available => Are DC mode and UHG not related ?
The only way I was able to make work together DC Mode and USB DAC mode is as follow :
  • Player plugged into the laptop => Quick charger Pop Up Screen => DC mode disabled
  • Start USB DAC mode
  • Go to Global menu and toggle on DC mode
Is it possible to :
  • have a DC mode icon on the status bar when it is on ?
  • have an option to activate by default DC mode when plugged in (no Pop Up Screen) ?

Thanks !

Dear friend,

We will report to the engineer for checking your requirment first.
  • have an option to activate by default DC mode when plugged in (no Pop Up Screen) ?--Do you prefer the option in the drop down menu?
The USB port in our computer could not enable the DC mode for M15S.
I tried to check with a quick charging charger. In case 1, DC mode is working when DC mode is enabled in the pop up window.
And yes, DC mode and UHG are not related.

Best regards

Hello @FiiO

have an option to activate by default DC mode when plugged in (no Pop Up Screen) ?--Do you prefer the option in the drop down menu?
I was thinking more of a system wide option like in Settings/Global, so when we plug the player to a fast charger DC mode is automatically on, without having to validate the Pop Up Screen each time. Maybe the behavior I am looking for is already there if I disable the Pop Up Screen (Do not show again) ?

The USB port in our computer could not enable the DC mode for M15S.
My laptop has 2 Thunderbolt 3 usb-c ports :

Are you saying it should not be working ?
The main point for me to buy the player is the DC mode where I can use the player in USB DAC mode while not draining the battery, and use it as a portable player on the go.

I tried to check with a quick charging charger. In case 1, DC mode is working when DC mode is enabled in the pop up window.
Yes, when plugged to a dedicated fast charger or to a usb-c fast charing port of my laptop, DC mode is working fine in Android mode.
My point was DC mode while using USB DAC mode was not working as intended (as described in Case 1 and Case 2).

And yes, DC mode and UHG are not related.
Thanks for confirming this behavior.

Best regards.

Dear friend,

I checked with the engineer and he told me that the output current in the USB port of the computer is limited when connecting via USB DAC mode. So the output current may not be enough for driving the M15S when using the M15S as USB DAC.
We will check whether we could improve about that in later firmware update.

Best regards

Listening to the15s with the u12t and I'm astonished by the sound quality. The trebles are insane. Everything is so smooth but yet detailed and articulated.
This player is amazing!
I must say this DAP is brilliant with HeKSE. I will pair it with the Cayin C9 to see what happens.

Thanks for looking into this case.
Just to be clear, DC mode with USB DAC is working only if I activate it via global setting after starting USB DAC mode. So for now, this workaround will be enough.
I look forward if you can improve the behaviour of DC mode in a firmware update.
Is it because I use a Thunderbolt 3 usb-c port that it has enough power to work with both USB DAC and DC mode at the same time ?

Regards,

@madzic I had the same issue as you are describing with your laptop but with a product from a different company.... the solution was to buy a special USB cable that splits out the power and the digital signal... with that cable one end plugs into the wall charger to deliver the correct power to the player and the other end to the laptop for the digital music side... it works well that way...

I copy what I wrote in the HeKSE:

I have just received the C9 to pair it with the M15s and the HeKSE. Honestly I am shocked. I just get back the feeling I had with my 11kgs Pioneer : a deeper sound.
And here, wow, terrific how the bubble grew up. No need to do A/B, it jumps on you. I did anyway to confirm because ears are so bad to rely on.
I did not decide what amp I prefer (A, A/B) but the "tube" option is exactly what you need with the SE. You loose maybe a bit of bass punch but it is smoother.

The M15s is really a nice DAP, doing a lot of stuff right. But with something like the HeKSE, the C9 is bringing it to another dimension.

I sure wish I could afford a C9 because it is a very very nice amp....

I just paired up the ifi Diablo with the M15s and that combo also scales the HEKV2 quite nicely... but I may have done it differently.... with the Diablo being a DAC/AMP you connect via the USB connector on the bottom of the M15s... The M15s when connected to the USB output has two options when you open a music app you will be asked if you want the app to control the USB device or not... so what happens if you say OK then the M15s will go into the by pass mode of the power amps and any EQ... but if you don't allow the app to take control of the USB then you will still retain full control of the output of the M15s and this includes having volume control and EQ apps like wavelet as an example...
