FiiO M15S Pocket Desktop-Level Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

I can’t find how to connect a Fiio m15s to the Fiio Q7 to use only the amp part of the Q7. Is that possible? With the c9 I used the line out 4,4mm of the m15s but not 4,4mm input on the Q7 🤔
Dear friend,

Hi, the Q7 does not support line in. So you could not connect M15S to Q7 to use only the amp part of the Q7.

Best regards

That's a thing I've wondered why FiiO hasn't included in their DAC/Amps

Is the extra circuitry for line in a lot harder to add in?

Dear friend,

1. The requirement of Line in is decreasing. Besides, many front-end have higher quality digital interface.

2. We need to add more EQ algorithms into our Protable Amplifier and DAC which focus in decoding. If the EQ algorithm is added in the line input, it needs to be post-processed by the ADC, so the signal fidelity will be reduced.

Best regards

Yeah I guess that's fair, but seeing as the Q7 is FiiO's flagship DAC/Amp it would have been nice to have the flexibility of just using it in standalone amp mode, that way users can still use it when newer DACs come out.

I don't think people will expect the standalone amp mode to include EQ processing to be fair so not having it should be fine.

Maybe we'll see something like that with the Q9? XD

Dear friend,

We do not have the plan of Q9 currently. But we will report your feedback to the product manager about that.

Best regards

Hello. I've upgraded my M11 Plus ESS to M15s and I'm puzzled by how poorly it's designed in terms of convenience.

1. Why can't I program an additional button to turn the screen on/off, as I could on the M11?
2. Why, if I limit the volume to 30% in the system, am I only allowed 30% rotation of the knob, and for the remaining 70%, I get an idiotic system alert that I can't even disable for future? Why can't the 0-30% range of available volume be scaled across the entire knob rotation range?

Dear friend

In summary, for a near-flagship device, 3 out of 7 buttons are not functional, and the knob is limited to 30% functionality (for my use). Additionally, the unfortunate placement of the screen unlock button next to the "previous track" button, which is pressed 50% of the time when attempting to turn on the screen.

Could you please let me know if there are plans to address these shortcomings? At the least, in the promised Android 12 update. And at the least an option to assign the screen unlock function to a programmable feature.
Thank you.

Are you already on low gain?

When I use a double usb-c (charging the m15s and sending music to an external DAC at the same time) it is working great with my Violectric amp/dac.
Today I received another amp/DAC (EarMen CH + Tradutto) and this one refuses the double task. You charge/use the desktop mode OR you send music to the DAC. I really want to use the desktop mode, it is the reason why I took this Fiio. The cable is fine but with some devices it did doesn’t work correctly (same on iPhone. You charge or you send the music).
Is anyone having a fix for that? Thxs.

While I do agree it would be cool for the extra buttons to be programmable, most flagship daps (really most all daps) only have 4 buttons and some dont even have knobs.... So if you're upset about that, look at the alternatives which have less options.

One thing I've noticed in using the M15S is that it tends to get really hot, and sometimes overheat when using PD, but does not have any issues with QC adapters. I've noticed this using a few different connection adapters and every time I use PD, and I use the device for a long time it gets hot and will eventually overheat with the warning. I never have this with using QC. I also used a plug that has both QC and PD ports in it and it also behaves the same.

This is both with and without desktop mode enabled.
