I just received my KA5 to take with me on a trip. I can’t seem to get it working with my iPhone SE(2020) or iPhone 12. Works flawlessly on my MacBook though. Am I doing something wrong?

I have an iPhone SE(2020) and the KA5 works flawlessly. Perhaps the KA5 is in UAC1.0 mode for gaming. From FiiO "With the KA5 not connected to any device and off, press and hold the multifunction key. While holding the key, connect the KA5 to your desired device to enable UAC1.0 mode." iPhones require UAC2.0 for music. Try a "Factory Reset" Also check the status of "SPDIF OUT," which should be "Off," and Hardware Mute Switch also should be Off. Remember, the volume controls on the iPhone and KA5 are completely independent. If either is set to zero, there will be no sound. Good luck!

Thanks for the elaborate reply. I have reset the device, checked the settings while connected to my laptop and then connected it to the phone again to no avail. Connecting it to my laptop immediately makes the screen light up, nothing when connecting to my phone...

The fact that nothing is happening on the KA5 display when you plug in the KA5 is NOT how mine works. The display comes on for 5 sec (default, make sure yours is not set to display timeout to "0" but this should have been covered by the reset) whenever you plug the KA5 in. So I'm thinking either 1) it's the cable or 2) the iPhone is blocking the USB connection through security settings. 1) Even though you said you're using the FiiO cable that came with it, it may be damaged/defective (Since MacBooks don't have a lightning connector, I assume you're not using the same cable for the Mac and iPhone). iPhones are notoriously picky about cables for music devices. Mine worked out of the box with the FiiO cable, but I wanted a longer cable, so I purchased several longer ones before I found one that worked, so I learned that many usb/lightning cables are charging only, and that often is not clear in the description... and 2) there is a setting on the iPhone SE under "Touch ID & Passcode" that "Allow Access When Locked", set "Accessories" to "ON." If that's already On, try "Off" (it all depends on Lock status and state).

Sorry to hear about that. Does the sound come from your iPhone at that time? Please try to restart the iPhone to see whether the issue remain?

Instead of playing through the KA5, it'll play music from the phone speakers. I have checked the "Accessory" settings in the iPhone, I have also completely reset one of the phones to check if there have been some settings that might have been blocking the KA5. To me it seems like it's the cable that's defective. It's a shame, because I can't get it replaced before my trip so I'll have to send the device back. Thanks for the help!

Excuse me, have you installed the driver for KA5?
