I agree, I also had a K5 and it has a worse HF than the KA17. They were indistinct, less resolution. Everything is fine on the KA17, after the E1DA 9038D I have no complaints about the sound quality, they play great on my Sennheiser HD660S headphones.
By the way, if you have a loud click when connecting, then delete the fiio application and everything will be fine right away. Moreover, using the equalizer you don't have a bit perfect sound, why worsen the sound? Better buy good headphones and you won't have to deal with this nonsense with the equalizer, making the sound worse.

The 9038d plays better, a little more detailed, a little better upper frequencies. This is on the 3.5 connector in desktop mode.
The 9038d6k sounds even better than the 9038d, and the balanced novelty 9039S, which will be released soon, will not leave the KA17 a single chance.

But the difference for me is very minimal, I have to sit and switch headphones and compare. And not all compositions can find this difference. At the same time, ka17 may be and will be better on the balance sheet

No, there is a difference in favor of 9038d6k. But I think this is almost the maximum that could be taken from this chip and such a compact device. Only the prototype 9039s plays a little better - there is an additional texture and naturalness, it plays more vividly. Ka17 just lacks this texture and brightness for me.
