i agree that it should have replaceable batteries and we can put in our nice rechargeable eneloops anyway

however if it has a belt i would assume you'll be able to open it to replace the belt so most likely the internal battery as well?

BUT replaceable batteries all day imo
I rather not be replacing belts LOL! weighing it tensions and so on will need special tools, which I don't think the modern people are equipped or having interests of acquiring.

It will obviously going to have a belt in it as it will use the typical Tanashin clone mechanism.
It's heavily modified according to Fiio, but it's still the same basic mechanism essentially, so it does use a belt.

As for opening it, yes this is yet another argument to put the case together with screws despite a belt will last more than the battery.
man dolby noise reduction sucks. literally. it sucks the life out of the sounds of cassettes. i always have it turned off on my walkmans, hifi cassette separate.

ill take hiss and that hard pumping analogue sound any day over dolby nr
Well, that's because for Dolby to work properly you need a few things:
- a properly recorded tape, meaning recorded on a deck with automatic/external calibration;
- the player needs to have the Dolby circuits properly calibrated, as Dolby is level sensitive;
- a perfectly adjusted azimuth: if NR is not used a slight misalignment can go unnoticed, however Dolby will emphasize that slight misalignement;

Any of the above not being met will render either muffled sound with Dolby or breathing artifacts (noise modulation).

Believe me, when everything is working correctly, Dolby is transparent and only thing it does is it reduces the noise floor.
Unfortunately, the reality is most of us never had properly recorded tapes (with calibration done on each individual tape) or calibrated players.
And in this scenario, of course Dolby will seem like it doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

A quote from Wikipedia: "The correct calibration of the recording and playback circuitry is critical in order to ensure faithful reproduction of the original program content. The calibration can easily be upset by poor-quality tape, dirty or misaligned recording/playback heads, or using inappropriate bias levels/frequency for the tape formulation, as well as tape speed when recording or duplicating. This can manifest itself as muffled-sounding playback, or "breathing" of the noise level as the volume level of the signal varies.".

For me it's always a "check it out first and switch to what sounds best" deal. Every cassette is different, every bit of music has levels and frequencies that are naturally able to hide hiss/noise, etc. But some cassettes do indeed sound better with Dolby on so I'm glad my decks have it as well as the ability to switch it off.

There won't be pre-orders,
but frankly, there are so many people among consumers who want to buy right now that I'm worried we're going to be sold out of the first batch very soon :beerchug:
Can you say why there is a Thai vendor offering the CP13 on pre-order then? They are one of your authorised distributors I believe (Holysai/Fiio.in.th).

..Scheduled to sell around mid March at circa £100..
$200? Not too bad !!! Nostalgia is a good thing. I hope we have some good recording line in quality. Because to have analog original tapes nowadays is almost impossible. At least with good line in rec, you can use the best DAC/systems to have your Nostalgic Walkman back

It's not $200. Wilson said it would be under $130. Otherwise, we are rewind is also an option.

I think the best option is to find an old one you like on popular auction sites and send it in to Retrospekt for service. They've worked on two of mine and got them running like new. Everyone seems to be lamenting the lack of Dolby so the only way to get that is buy an old player and restore/refurb it.

But a ready-made option like WAR and this new Fiio are probably fine. Anyone who expects Nakamichi and Sony ES type quality is simply deluding themselves!

At this price, with these functions and this "FIIO walkman" mechanism in the 21st century = You can expect one thing - it will be a plastic, fantastic toy for children.
Did this announcement of the premiere raise hopes?
Probably yes,
but there is no nostalgia for people who once used really good, high-quality Walkman models.
This revival of the "Walkman" doesn't bother me, it's better to spend more money and buy a real, good quality deck, of which there are plenty, but they are not popular anyway.
Let's be honest, it's the era and the cassette medium it is not developmental.

In fact,
the pre-sale in Thailand was not an official event for us. The Thailand market is special, we didn't know before that they have so many cassette player users.

So far our official pre-sale campaign is only in mainland China.
New category of our products need to know some real sales trends, so that we can easily make subsequent decisions

I think the CP13 should be better than anything currently on the market, and much better

Also I would like to mention that the current selling price in China is 699RMB,
as for outside of China, it will be slightly different due to different agent policies.
