Granted. Lets leave it at that and continue with our discussion on the merits of the equipment in question.

The Fiio FH5 is a universal IEM and many on this board have found ways to fit the FH5 to their particular ear. mhoopes gave excellent instructions on the use of a gasket to help fit the fh5. I found the length of an ear tip to be crucial as well.

If the Fiio FH5 is a concern about fitting your ear you may be at the cusp of universal and custom IEM’s.

With the wealth of good ideas found here on fitting the FH5, if a problem still occurs it might lie in the bio-mechanics of your ear and not necessarily Fiio’s FH5 universal IEM.

My guess would be the design is the same. They would have to do re-tooling which is expensive.

They definitely did it with the F9 and after only a couple of months, from memory.

Main reason for going off-site is that my reviews never make front page anymore. Other people who also post their reviews first off-site still do. Thanks for the reviews. A quick slightly off topic question. What is it about FiiO, especially their DAPs, that you seem to like so much? As a reviewer, you obviously have access to other manufacturer's items?

I’m old school and still remember how bad the DAP situation used to be - virtually no features and awful GUIs. What I see now from many manufacturers is feature rich and very affordable. I love the option to use DSP (Viper), and most of my music is ripped from my own CDs and meticulously tagged. I don’t tend to use a lot of play lists, and I use aac256 so I only ever have to use one sdxc card. I’m also reasonably well versed in what I can actually hear, and knowwhat is psycho-acoustic BS (I’ve tested my own thresholds & when making comparisons I volume match).

For my uses, FiiOs gear just works. It’s cheap, sounds great, does what I need it to, and hardly ever glitches.

As far as comparisons to a lot of different manufacturers - I don’t get a lot of gear to compare a lot of the time. I don’t solicit samples - and being in a backwater like NZ doesn’t help (shipping costs).

Because I write an actual review (warts and all) rather than an advertising piece - I guess manufacturers have other options.

Thanks Brooko, that answers my question perfectly. I've had lots of different FiiO DAPs, iBasso DX200, Questyle QP1R and QP2R. I always keep coming back to the X7ii. It's not quite as resolving as the others listed but sounds a bit more organic.

I know FiiO has been accused of having buggy firmware, but for my uses which is listening in file browsing mode, or as a USB DAC for online content or Foobar, like you, suits me fine.

Living in Jersey, Channel Islands, which is a 9 by 5 mile island between England and France, with no specialist dealers, I would save myself a lot of messing around if I just stuck with Fiio's flagship DAPs and forget the rest.

I kind of regret sending the one I had back, but at the time I was not familiar with android at all. Plus the battery life seemed a little nip and tuck for my needs.

If so, good for them. They either must sell a ton of these to offset the tooling or they have some magical voodoo low cost tooling method. There's definitely something about Fiio that sets them apart from the other Chi-fi brands. Been a fan since the first X5 came out.

It's good that they make improvements to their products, but as in the case of the F9 and maybe the FH5 so soon after release makes you think it wasn't fully tested before release.

Maybe they don't or maybe Asian ears are somewhat smaller than Western ones, or they tested on mostly small ears. Guess we won't know for sure. I'm just glad they don't do that Kickstarter nonsense other OEMs still do.

I personally am perfectly fine with the short nozzles. I can think of several IEMs with terrible nozzle fit for me - FLC8, RHA t10 and Fidue A83 come to mind.

I get the Asian thing, but they sell worldwide, so this should be a consideration for them. I took me a while to get used to the FH5, but I am fine now with FiiO's own tips. I used to love the A83's. Never had an issue with them or the A91 Sirius.
