FiiO&JadeAudio Dynamic Driver IEMs Discussion & Impressions Thread

Does he publish any more in depth explanation for each rating (I mean I doubt it.. There's so many of them)? The ratings for so many models are really unexpected
Well he only explains what each grading means, and they are chosen based on "sonic performance". He does measure the iems but I'm not sure if they play a part in his grading. I also do not know if he compares the FR graphs to the Harman curve or some other reference graph to influence his ratings.

I do wish he will overlay the Harman curve with his measured graphs though.
Does FD5 come with 2-PIN or if not, is there any plan for the future?

It doesn't and it might not. As far as I know, all of FiiO's iems and cables are MMCX.

I was abit surprised to see it with a C+ rating on the Crinacle iem ranking list. I hope that doesn't deter anyone from trying these out.

This was kinda what I expected. I was seriously underwhelmed myself by the FD5 when I first heard it out of the box. Appalled, even, given its mid-tier pricing.

But the right tip selection makes all the difference, and, in this instance, I'm inclined to say burn-in too.

For what it's worth, I owned the Sony IER-M9 the same time I had the FD5. The M9 are technically stellar, don't get me wrong. And their bass and timbre are fantastic for an all-BA set. But I went back and forth between the two, and kept the FD5.

Did you find the DD tonality more to your taste?

Absolutely, yes.
Same is happening with me with UM 3DT. Gonna check how it stands up to Audiosense T800 next week... And then decide should I get one of them pre-loved, replacing my Orb and GT600S.

Which tips are you using?

I'm switching between Xelastecs and Spiral Dots because, for me, they're the most comfortable ones with the FD5. Soundwise I prefer the Final E tips.
I currently use the provided foam tips. Never been a fan of foam tips till now, always felt it screwed the sound signature. I’m surprised with how the Fd5 sounds with its provided foam tips. Of all the provided tips, only the foams gives me perfect fit and seal. Ordered the Xelastacs and will check it out. Don’t have any other tips though.

Just his personal opinion, with the only weight being he puts more work into it. Personally I think it's better to disregard such reviewer's as they only tend add their own bias. Better to see what the average listener has to say, if the product in question is generally positive, it's likely to be decent subject to taste as is the FD5.

FWIW I don't own the FD5 have listened, they are a good IEM for the price, as ever always better to see for yourself and not rely on a third party.

#Questionnaire# In terms of the MMCX connector of the earphone cable, which design do you like the most, the L-shaped or the straight type? Please take a vote by choosing one of the following designs. Thank you so much for your time and advice.
1. Straight MMCX connector
Pros: more appropriate to use metal material showing better textures.
Cons: the cable length might look over-long when wearing the earphones; harder to plug and unplug the connector.
2. Arc-shaped MMCX connector
Pros: the cable length would be more appropriate; it would fit your ears in an attractive manner with the over-the-ear type; easier to pull it off from the earphone units.
Cons: difficult to use metal materials

For some iems, an arc shape can cause fit issues, and for that reason alone I vote for straight.

Sorry, I don't use Facebook.

Another vote for option 1 - the straight MMCX (or preferably 2pin) connector.
