Which is better, Fiio EK9 or the Schiit Magni? What setup would you personally get?

The EK9 has a nice feature, specifically the fact that it can cradle the very popular Fiio E17 DAC/AMP, making the combined devices an AMP x DAC system. Also, the E17 is portable and provides tremendous convenience if you're an avid traveler who needs amplification for your headphones.

In contrast, the Schiit Magni amp doesn't have a cradling feature. And their respective DAC, the Modi, is not portable and doesn't have the multiple features the E17 has. 

Most importantly though, how are the sound qualities of each amp? Are the Schiit's any better?

I would look at it in the sense that if you need portability then get something portable, if on want something for home use, then get the nicer desktop friendly item. I would get the Schitt stack for home. Its better than the Fiio by a bit. If I wanted portability I would just get a Fiio e12.

Why not just get the Fiio E17 and skip on the E09K.
The only reason to buy the E09K is if you had 300-Ohm or 600-Ohm headphones.
Technically the E17 would work better with low (50-Ohm or less) impedance headphones better then the E09K.

The draw of the E17 stack to me is because of it's so vertisile. 
 
I might need to use the E17 with my Iphone.
 
But most of the times. I'm trying to find something that works very well with a pair of K702. 
 
Also do you think Modi + E12 will work well?

Also, would i need to buy their PYST Rca cables for connecting the DAC to my Magni or E 12?
 
Or does it include one if i buy the Magni and Modi as a set

I just picked up the Modi and Magni. The PYST is not included.

I do recall reading a review or two saying that the synergy between the e09k and the e17 was not very good. Don't know if you came across those. Something to consider.
