Yes. DT 990 is a step up from HD 598, leave alone HD 558. DT 990 almost comes in the league of HD 600.
People keep telling me the Beyedynamic 990 Pro 250-Ohms are better. Is this true?

I can see people liking the DT990s better then the HD558s.
I myself use my DT990 Premium 600-Ohm with my Yamaha receiver for cable TV and Blu-ray/DVD movies.
The DT990 are full bass & full treble, which slightly overshadows the mids, but the mids are clear.
And I would assume the Bravo Ocean would do a good job of bring out the best in the DT990s.

I am not talking of the sound signature. The sound signature is opposite to each other. However, they come in the same league as far as sound technicalities are concerned. Technically they are comparable products with very different sound signatures.
Again, have you heard either?
I have at least heard bravo ocean, fiio e11 , 518, 558 and asus stx
Has anybody in this thread heard the 558 and 598 and 990 and e17 and bravo ocean, all of them, I doubt it!
I have at least heard bravo ocean, fiio e11 which is a bit better than e17, 518, 558 and asus stx which is again better than fiio e17. The bravo ocean is in a different league altogether. And you can commonly find comparisons btw hd 600 and dt 990 with different sound signature recommendations, I doubt anybody compares a hd 558 to a dt 990.

Please don't recommend equipment you don't own or otherwise don't have a reasonable amount of familiarity with. You wouldn't recommend someone a car you've never driven or suggest someone live in a country you haven't been to, so recommending headphones and equipment you haven't owned or used is unhelpful. Even if you've seen the same comments about something from a dozen members, save discussion of that if you're intending to buy it yourself.
Likewise, please avoid trashing equipment you haven't used or aren't familiar with. Having doubts about something you see in a design is fair enough, but to quote Robert Pirsig: "The test of the machine is the satisfaction it gives you. There isn't any other test. If the machine produces tranquility, it's right. If it disturbs you it's wrong until either the machine or your mind is changed." So remember that you can derive satisfaction from listening with any audio gear as much from your appreciation of the design (whether how it looks or how it measures) as much as how it reproduces music.
