The Fiio E17 is pretty neat, especially if you have a DAP with an optical out.

any of Ray Samuel's portable amps, all class A, have guts, tone and lifetime warranty and great
customer service.  Pricey and worth it. but you can find used ones on the forums!
new Cayin C5 which DSnuts is about to review, looks promising also.

How about the E12DIY?
 
The only issue about the E12 I dont like is the high noise floor with sensitive IEMs, other than that I find it pretty good. I dont have much experience with many brands or models but the Sony PHA-2 has a sound signature I prefer than the E12 + much lower noise floor for the Sony PHA-2.
 
Or if you dont mind to splurge, get the Chord Hugo.

Ray Samuels Intruder and Sony pha2 sound great to my ears. I also liked the E18.For the price, Fiio is an excellent performer.
