Just got a BTR3K. Sounds fine with headphones, but I really bought it for home/car use. I figured the fact it has a car mode would mean it's suitable for this. So far connecting it up to my home amp via the 3.5mm jack it's very quiet compared to both a cheap Mpow receiver I have and a direct cable from the headphone jack. I've checked and phone volume is max, FIIO app shows volume as max and EQ off. Can I really not get a signal approaching line level from the 3.5mm jack? Would the 2.5mm jack work better? I know it's more power but I'm loathe to have to go and buy new cables. It's a shame a 2.5mm adapter wasn't included in the box if this is the case.
I'm starting to wonder if anything described as a headphone amp is really what I'm after but struggling to find alternatives.
Hi,
We did not try about that. You could try to set the charge option of the BTR5 to off and switch the usb mode of the BTR5 to USB1.0 to check again?
Best regards
Yes, the BTR3k works as a USB DAC on the Nintendo Switch
From my BTR3k initial impressions posting:
"Nintendo Switch Update: Yes!, the BTR3k can connect to the switch via USB and it works great. Not unexpected since the BTR3 can do this as well, but after the disappointment finding out that the BTR5 won't connect to the Nintendo Switch (also PS4 per the BTR5 thread), it's a nice reason to keep the BTR3K around even though I've really enjoyed the BTR5... maybe I really do "need" both." https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fii...ity-bluetooth-amp.928317/page-5#post-15549022
FYI - Zeos has released his BTR3k review: FiiO BTR3k _(Z Reviews)_ aka, mini-BTR5
I'm enjoying the BTR3k DD leather case, it makes the BTR3k easier to hold and protects it when rolling around the other things tossed along with it in the bag. Zeos didn't show or mention the BTR3k case but did show the BTR5's DD leather case - which I also have and enjoy using.

Thanks for the advice. I admit a heave zero experience with unbalanced outputs. I just did a search and it seemed to throw up unbalanced to stereo cables. If that's a no-go then it clears things up - it's not really suitable for anything but headphones, even though it advertises a car mode.

The balanced output has much more output power than the single ended output, however the latter worked well in my car.
I recommend to use Fiio LA-UA1 USB filter device in your car together with the BTR3K, which improves a lot the Sound Quality.
①If the app quit working, it is suggested to clear the pairing record of the BTR3K in your phone. Then reconnect it to your phone and try again.
②For the iOS version: the first time to enter “Bluetooth device control”, short press the power button of the BTR3K to finish connection, and then click “Cancel” and return to “Bluetooth device control” menu. It will be connected successfully. At this time, click BTR3K to execute relating operations.
③For the iOS version: if the BTR3K did not show up in the “Bluetooth device control” list, click the “Refresh” icon in the upper right corner, or quit the app for a while and then reenter it.
I thought it would be fun to see how the BTR3k does driving the Beyerdynamic DT 880 250ohm 3.5mm SE, and if it can drive the DT880 250ohm, how long will the BTR3k last?
Good news, the BTR3k at 100% volume 3.5mm it's "almost" enough, but by enabling "Loudness Equalization" in Windows 10 for the BTR3k USB DAC device the DT 880 sounds more than loud enough to enjoy some action movie(s).
The BTR5 lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes at 100% volume on High Gain, I wonder how long the BTR3k will last?
I had to click 3 times to lower the volume from 100% with the BTR3k, the BTR5 needed 100% volume - I didn't need to enable "Loudness Equalization" for the BTR5.
Started the run now at 10:40am, set Charge=OFF - and switched from High Performance to Low Power DAC then disconnected and reconnected the USB cable after those "FiiO Control" changes - let's see how long the BTR3k lasts
Update: For some reason the BTR3k wouldn't turn off Charge unless I set it to Always and rebooted - which should have cleared the setting and put it back at default, but didn't - it's now at 80%, I'll have to recharge and restart the measurements - later.
The DT 880 250 ohm headphones sound great driven by the BTR3k, but like the BTR5 there isn't much headroom at the top of the volume range to play with.
If I understand your question correctly, yes. I've used it both via bluetooth from my PC as well as as a direct wired DAC connected to the PC's USB-C ports.
