[FiiO BTR15/BTR5 2021/BTR5]Bluetooth DAC and Headphone Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

Hi , please forgive me laziness 😄 maybe there is answer to this question.
I own BRT3K and I'm very pleased with it's sound signature. Unfortunately battery is dying quick, so I need a new BT AMP/DAC. Now the quesition. Is BTR5 2012 sound similar to BTR3K or maybe better? I read in general BT AMP DAC topic that it's lightly bland. How do you compare those two in terms of sound quality and general sound profile.
Dear friend,

For your reference:
What's the main difference compairing BTR5 to BTR3 and BTR1?
1. Inside the BTR5 are two dual DAC--ES9218Ps, with both 3.5mm single-ended and 2.5mm balanced dual interface output. One DAC operates at single-ended, and one DAC is responsible for one channel at balanced-ended.
2. The BTR5 is equipped with a 0.49-inch OLED display, which can display the volume, power, encoding format, etc., and we can control EQ, filter, gain switching, charging switch, etc. through the display.
3. The BTR5 also made a leap-forward upgrade in USB DAC decoding. With a separate XMOS xUF208 decoder chip inside it, the BTR5 enables USB DAC to support 384K 32bit/DSD256, which can be comparable to desktop decoder.
If you would prefer the higher sampling rate support in USB DAC function, you could consider the BTR5 instead. But the BTR3 is cheaper and much smaller. :)

Best regards

If I'm not mistaken the btr5 also has more power output than the btr3

The problem is that battery in my BTR3K is dying quick. I'm so in love with my BTR3K sound that dont't want to switch to any other :). But the damn battery...
So, I asked the seller's service for spare battery, but they said, Fiio is not sending them batteries. So I'm forced to switch to other BT AMP/DAC. BTR5 is one of the options (probably the only one at the moment as most of your competitors are absent in internet stores in my country - very strange by the way :) ).
BTR7 is too big, so I'm considering BTR5.

If your btr3 battery is dying and you've been using it for a long time, then eventually the btr5 will have the same issue. All modern devices with built in batteries will eventually die over time.
I really like my btr5, especially the oled screen readout and the ability to change parameters and get a visual readout.
I don't think the btr5 should sound worse than the btr3.

However if you're really happy with the btr3 you could just buy another one.

Shhhh...😄 My wife can hear you 😜
Nooo... There are no BTR3K...I need a new toy...more expanesive one ...poor me ...
But seriously, I need some development, so I decided to BTR5 or Qudelix/ Shanling
Aha lol.
From what I can gather the shanling up4 and fiio btr5 are similar in price, sound and power. The btr5 has the oled readout screen. The up4 has the analogue rotary volume control.
The qudelix5 is the more expensive option. Apparently it has a great companion app that offers a parametric equalizer. The same power and similar sound to the btr5.
However the layout of the buttons are a pain. Some buttons are on the left side, some are on the right and some people say because of that it's easy to hit the button on the right side as you press the button you want on the left side and vice versa; but if you're controlling everything from the app, then the button layout won't matter.

All three are reasonable options to the btr3.
Good luck deciding and good luck with the wife.

Then you must love Porsche 911.
Hah!

It's just that FiiO made the versioning the second digit. That's what drives me nuts. It would have made much more sense if they made it the last digit, IMO.

IMO the new convention would have been much better if the successor to the BTR5 was the BTR51 (then the BTR52, then the BTR53, etc.). Even better if it was the BTR5v2 instead - stick a "v" in there to denote version. :)

...but putting the version increment in the middle? Yuck.

I really hate FiiOs new naming convention. Love their products, but yeah - the new convention stinks IMO.
Dear friend,

Thanks for the kind feedback. Yes, it takes some time for us to remember the new naming rule better.

Best regards

You don't have to look at that part of the BTR15 story, you can already read it in English.

They have a metal frame with a leather finish.
I'd prefer the color brown over white.
