2. K11 R2R special edition
In the past two years, due to chip supply issues and technical bottlenecks, there have been very few choices for audio DACs. In this context, various brands have introduced their R2R products.

Adopting R2R technology allows us to break free from the restrictions of ESS, AKM, and other chip manufacturers. We can use general chips like FPGA. Additionally, the R2R D/A conversion mode, compared to the current commercial DAC's Δ - Σ conversion method, is considered to be closer to the sound of analog audio. Therefore, despite some key indicators such as signal-to-noise ratio, distortion, dynamics, and sampling rate support being somewhat inferior, and despite higher power consumption, larger size, and higher costs, many audiophiles would still choose products with R2R technology for their unique sound.

Simply put, R2R has good taste, while Δ - Σ has high quality. (Note: There are R2R with very high indicators, yet at an extremely high price and with large circuit size. We personally think that if R2R indicators are pronounced too high, its unique taste might not be so attractive.)

Therefore, the K11 R2R version will be FIIO's first product to use R2R technology. As the first product, there may be some aspects that are not so mature and complete. So, we are testing with the technology in the K11 first. We will gradually iterate and evolve based on feedback from users. Depending on feedback and demand from audiophiles, we will decide whether to develop it as a personalized product in small quantities or apply it as a core technology to more of our products in the future.

The K11 R2R version is expected to be available for sale in the middle of 2024.

Thank you, FiiO.

So M17 will be updated to Android 12 in the future.
Any chance older products (M11 original) be updated to Android 12 as well?

Hello dear Fiio friends, I am already a user of some products from your brand (IEMS). Yesterday I saw a message written by their sponsors in this forums.

I'm really thinking about buying the Fiio M17, will they update this device to a more recent version of the Operating System (Android 12) like R9? I need that answer to know what decision to make at this moment; buy the M17 or wait for the M27.....
WAIT.

(4) Desktop Music Player

Since the launch of FIIO's first desktop player, the R7, designed for desktop use in early 2023, it has become a favorite among consumers as possibly the world's only streaming digital audio player with an open Android system.

At the end of 2023, FIIO continued its efforts and released the flagship all-in-one digital media streamer R9. With significant improvements in specifications, performance, configuration, interfaces, and design compared to the R7, the R9 is currently in hot sale.

Therefore, following tradition, both the R7 and R9 will continue regular production and sales throughout 2024. Don’t worry if you are interested in them.

At the same time, we have received a considerable amount of suggestions and feedback, with two main points of focus:

1. The R7/R9 combines streaming digital audio, decoding, and headphone amplification in one, making it suitable for desktop scenarios with speakers/headphones. However, many audiophiles need a streaming digital audio player for the living room, serving as an audio source for speaker systems, paired with DAC/Amps.

2. The R7/R9 is designed vertically due to the consideration that many apps do not support landscape mode. However, traditional HiFi systems in the living room generally have a horizontal design. So, it will not be so harmonious in terms of appearance matching and placement.

Therefore, we are also considering developing another parallel product line with a more traditional streaming digital audio player. The tentative model is named S15, and the product overview is as follows:

(1) Still based on the Android operating system. However, due to the orientation of the display screen, some streaming media apps may not be supported.

(2) Adopts a traditional horizontal design with standard 1 DIN width (430CM) for better compatibility with existing power amplifiers.

(3) Provides rich analog/digital outputs to facilitate users in connecting various DACs, power amplifiers, etc.

(4) Features a variety of control modes, including remote control, smartphone control, on-device touchscreen, knobs, etc.

The attached image is not the final design and is for reference only. The expected release is in the fall of 2024, with a pricing positioning in the mid-range category.
oh damn...the streamer wars have begun!! This looks nice!! I have owned so many Fiio products and theyre always on time with something else I want!!!

Dear Fiio, when I originally wrote to you in this forum I also did so at support@fiio.com (FiiO Support).

Your Product Manager and Technical Support have different information about the M17, what information should we be sure of?

Below is the response that support@fiio.com gave me in this regard:

_"Dear Mauricio Navas,
Thank you for reaching out to FiiO!

R9 will be updated to Android 12 in the first quarter of 2024.
In addition, there are no plans to update the Android system for other playback devices.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know and we would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!

i'd say go for it! with the typical discount for the M17 nowadays. it's a bargain for the specs and the quality of the thing. just as long as you don't plan to use it as a fully portable(it's a bit huge to carry around), as a desktop transportable unit, the m17 is really excellent for it's SRP price, let alone the discounts now.

The M17 is great but it's not really portable. Weighs too darn much to carry around.

Thank you for your opinion, however IT IS NOT WHAT I ASKED @FiiO nor what Fiio responded to me in this forum, nor what its support department responded to me by email.

I will continue waiting for clarification from FIIO to be able to make the purchase, I am really very interested in the M17, especially for streaming, so I see its update as important....

Is there any development ongoing for global PEQ in Q7?
Dear friend,

Sorry since the EQ in Q7 is realized by the Bluetooth chip. So the other input modes like USB could not add EQ support.

Best regards

@FiiO - Will the current M11 Plus be updated to Android 12?

Thanks

Dear friend,

Yes, when Android 12 is stable.
