Dear friend,

You may check whether this picture could help:
Yes. Still confusing.
"Following the latest naming rules, M23 is the replacement model for the M11 Plus."
But according to your scheme what i understand is that M23 is an upgraded version for M3...

BTW... Still no plans for entry-level or mid-range players ?

Dear friend,

The second digit stands for upgrade code.
For each upgrade, the upgrade code before the level code will be added with one bit, usually using from 1 to 9 in sequence: So the second digit of M23 is 2. (1->2)
The third digit stands for level code.
Taking a natural number (such as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9), the larger the number, the higher level the product: So the third digit of M23 is 3. (1->3)

Yes, no plan currently.

Best regards

So if the M11 Plus, which was released with the old naming scheme, would have been released using the new naming scheme back then, it would have been called M13 and so the upgrade is M23.

So M23 is the Upgrade for M13 (Due to old naming scheme called M11 Plus), correct?

Confused, you will be.

Perhaps Fiio should just stick with something like X5, X5 II, X5 III etc but even that would get confusing quickly at the rate these things are churned out.
Most competitors have like series, i think that is an good idea.

For example Sony has the S-Series, A-Series, ZX-Series and WM1-Series.
Astell&Kern is the Same with the Norma, Futura, Ultima, KANN

Because with the new naming scheme there will be the same problem than with the old naming scheme. Products that are different will be considered better.

Most people think the M17 has better sound than the M11 Plus, with the new naming scheme it will most likely be M23 and M29, but the only difference is the power output.

So they maybe should make like 2 Series

Power DAPs and Normal DAPs. Most people never need any power, but they want the best sound quality. Quite a lot people ended up buying the M17 and not using it because its big and heavy, even though they never need the power, just because they thought its the best.

The word has been said - M27Pro wow.......this DAP will have a great specification :L3000:

@wamp898 Here you are right a lot of bought M17 due to higher number = higher sound quality than M15? and she hasn't used her super powers to this day.
And even more thought that M11s - it's another version of super quality M11 newer than M11 Plus at a super "S" price - joke :)

I'm taking it easy with the naming, I'll wait, read the specification, and most importantly, listen to the FIIO M23.

The DAP market - is very saturated, the same situation as with smartphones where the sale of the annual new model is not so interesting.

Really new solutions, better sounding, functional and systemic, must appear on the market to convince to replace the current DAP and buy a new product.
I have no complexes listening to and comparing my several years old M15 and M11 Plus Ltd to new products in a blind test with my colleagues.

That's why I asked for preliminary information about the FIIO M23 specification.

The DAP market - is very saturated, the same situation as with smartphones where the sale of the annual new model is not so interesting.
There is a gap in the DAP market now, as most known producers have quit the production of entry and mid-range level DAP's and re-oriented to high end level.
Forced at first by the chipset crisis during the pandemic.
There are not many DAP's on the market now in the 80-250 USD range. There is Hidisz with their AP80 Pro X and some obscure manufacturers who are trying to fill the gap ( Mechen, Surfans or HiFi Walker ) and have some decent but quite big models.
That's why I asked FiiO if they plan to return to their models in this price range.
Their M3 Pro was quite good and also very small. It had some issues like the EQ not having any correction in the 4kHz- 16KHz range, but sound was great. And more convenient to carry than the huge smartphones on the market today + some extra amplifiers to get the right sound.

@FiiO is there a plan to upgrade the BTR7 (BTR7K?) with an upgraded bluetooth chip like QC5181 to support aptX lossless and bluetooth 5.4?
Dear friend,

We don't have update plan for BTR7 this year. Thanks for your interest.

Best regards

I think this is mostly because the all have been so easily outperformed by USB Dongles.

FiiOs own USB DAC but also the offers from other makers, especially the ones from Moondrop, easily compete with Mid-Range DAPs.

Its hard to justify an 150$ DAP when an 60$ USB Dongle has better specs.

So imho, USB Dongles killed entry level DAPs and i personally think thats good. With way less resources they provide higher sound quality for less money.

An Entry Level DAP is basically just a waste of silicium and other rare metals given the current situation

Maybe, but it's not very convenient the use of a USB dongle when on the go ( running, beach... )
Today's phones are huge, you add a USB dongle to it, with a cable or bluetooth...
A small player it's more easy to carry.
I have the BTR5 from FiiO, but mostly it stays in the drawer.

If FIiO and other known brands don't plan anymore to make them, I just hope the no-name brands will evolve and take their place on that market. And it seems they have started to fill the gap. Even very cheap products are starting to get better sound, but usually their software it's a disaster. For now. They remember me the first M3 from FiiO.
