You mean a sudden Spike in demand :D

Btw guys, munich high end will feature Thomas Mayers own amp line. Who knows maybe the Envy will have some serious competition soon.

Yep the Elrogs will be the first big step. Already trying to organise Takatsuki with a friend in Japan.
Driver tubes make a big difference as well. :)

hi, all users fans of melz 1578. How long does this tube take to burn in? Got a pair NOS (bit expensive). a few hours hin, i am getting the authority, punch and deep bass, but fine level detail, and refinement in the mids is behind the stock psvane. Treble is extended no roughness of anything. Just wondering does this reknown russian heavyweight change over time with burn in.

They are incisive. Dry in the mid range. Pretty transparent. I personally prefer the Telefunken G73R. How much did you spend on them? Maybe send pics of it so we can let you know if they are real or fakes?

I am on the fence regarding the Melz 1578s. Based on your response, if I really enjoy the G73R, will I like the Melz? I ask because I haven't taken the G73R out of the Envy since getting them and I think they're pretty awesome but the more I read these threads, I am tempted to purchase the Melz 1578s. Don't want to spend money unnecessarily.

$550
Here are the images. Are these correct melz 1578 or wrong? Read in forums that melz production is a hot mess when it comes to printing for differents years, some have 1578 label some dont. Im not sure.

I personally have to pair of Melz 1578 and sold my 3rd pair. I never use them. G73R is more my jam. You have one of the best driver tubes that seems to last a long time.

Siemens C3G (quad) is an alternative. They are very open on the edge of being too bright but a ton of dynamics.

These are my favorite tubes for the Envy:
Elrog TM300B, Telefunken G73R, Siemens C3G (quad), Brimar CV1988, Brimar 6J5G L63 (quad)

What year does it say in the gold writing? Mine are October 1976. it looks like maybe yours are December 1975. I literally just asked on the 6SN7 thread what year mine were made so I could tell. I had no idea how to read that this morning :gs1000smile:

As you say it's a bit of a minefield. These 6N8S variants look pretty similar too! Maybe they are the real deal as well. Who knows.

Yours look identical to mine except mine also state "1578" on them. To me they sound punchy, extremely detailed with great seperation. They are the most technical tubes I have heard but potentially they may be bested by the Telefunken G73-R.

I really hope one of the lovely American, German or Japanese manufacturers deceide to make some new production 6SN7s.

I think WE might be working on it.
No Clue about Takatsuki.
Elrog however certainly won't

I've been looking at the Melz that you posted in this reply and they seem legit from my research but I'm not 100% sure. The seller has not responded to questions, so I'll probably pass on them.

Thanks, I may hold off on the Melz in that case. I have some RCA 5692 red base arriving in a few days. I'll see if I like those but the G73Rs are awesome in all aspects to me.

Whatever happened to WE? I thought the 6Sn7s were supposed to come out last year or something. Any updates on this?

maybe i didn't get a pair thats supposed to sound like it should. Yep 1975. I went in knowing the risk. I have rolled the stock psvane and melz several times, i don't feel that any detail is missing, but it just seems to not be as refined in mids. Oh well, lesson learned. Thanks for the info. I am eyeing we300b pair next purchase (flavor choice), enjoying the elrogs er300b now which is just excellent with the psvane stock. You hold the g73r in such high regard, does the label on the black g73r have to red lettering, any other important tips/characteristics that is a must when buying one? Even though i am priortising the WE300B next. Many Thanks

Have a chat with this fellow. You might get a deal. I negotiated a deal.

You'll need some adapters though.

There may be others that are also good but I can confirm those are the real deal.
