Feedback on UM2s

Some people prefer the ER4 sound (forward, very detailed, less bass) and some like the UM2 sound (warm, less detailed, but very fun to listen to.) You'll get people on here praising the ER4 and putting down the UM2 and vice versa. I've owned both and vastly prefer the UM2, but that's just my personal preference. But don't underestimate the importance of comfort and portability, the UM2 is vastly superior in this area. You've already ordered them so be patient and give them a try...

The UM2's are fantastic for exercise. I use them for indoor rowing and cycling, and outdoor cycling and inline skating all the time. I've never really noticed any problem with the SQ off the shuffle, although I think the 1st gen shuffle sounded a bit better than the 2nd. If you're working hard enough, you won't care. The UM2's make no wind noise at all, which is really nice on the bike.

SQ is generally excellent. I'd have to respectfully disagree about them not benefitting from amping- the UM2's sound mindblowingly good with my new Tomahawk and a lineout from the Nano.

It's a great IEM.

hey don't get me wrong i don't think they are bad, just that last meet, er-4s was found to be unanimously better driven by the equipment that was there (supermicro, ldm, imod, etc). i wouldn't be surprised if more people than not think um2's sound better unamped, because er-4 can be harsh and stuff.

i'm listening to um2's now actually. i swapped with a friend for my er-4s for a week. it's not without its charms. extremely non fatiguing to listen to, somewhat more comfortable because the unit fits in the bowl of the ear. but unlike the ety, it doesnt take u there. the songs aren't getting sung to u. i'm just not going wow!

but each to his own...

As with most HiFi what others are saying is true - it depends on the compromise that works for you. I use UM2s for walking and long train trips and do miss the highs (their weakpoint). However they are much more comfortable and, yes, you can lie down more comfortably on your side with them than ER4s. I'm one who finds they do lift when amplified but, despite their 'classic' nature (i.e. they are a good compromise with one already mentioned weak area), I'm looking to see if the Westone 3 can deliver those highs without too much compromise at the other end (when amplified, of course!).

As mentioned, you've ordered them so try them. They seem to go pretty promptly when offered in the FS threads and, depending on where you're getting them from, there could be a suitable 'return' option if they really don't work for you.
