Thanks for these, i will definately chase them up. The Elvis Costello track sounds like fun. Hearing about it reminds me of the Edge's solo on Party Girl from Live Under a Blood Red Sky, which I think is sort of so bad as to be actually pretty good if that makes sense (and i love the bit when Bono says 'its our hero' over the guitar solo).

Still working through the list but I started with Stryper. When i think of them i always think of Soldiers Under Command with its killer riff. But i had forgotten how good some of their other stuff was and that those guys could really play lead, some nice work with the wammy bar too! Also dug out my old Sabbath albums and had great fun listening to that stuff again.

I am a big fan of Todd Rundgren but mainly his earlier stuff and will check out 'Liar' - what's the rest of the album like?

Led Zeppelin - (Jimmy Page) - If I had to pick one guitar solo, it would be from "No Quarter". This just might top my list of the greatest rock guitar solos ever.

Carlos Santana - Soul Sacrifice, Europa, Incident at Neshabur and pretty much anything else.

Jerry Garcia deserves a mention here as the greatest improvisational guitarist, but its tough to pick just one solo.

My other favorite rock guitarists who tend to rip nasty solos include Steve Kimock and Derek Trucks.

Marty Friedman
Chris Poland
Angus Young
Kirk Hammet
Jimmy Page
David Gilmour
Jimi Hendrix
Dimebag Darrel
Dean DeLeo
Alex Skolnick
Gary Holt
Jeff Loomis

Hmm, I guess that's it. Good thing this wasn't a guitar riff thread or my list would be a mile long.
