Following on from the recent stuff on guitarists I was wondering what are some of peoples' favourite guitar (or bass) solos ? I think I have a fair collection but am always keen to add to it.

In no particular order a few of my favourites that spring to mind are:

Eruption by Eddie Van Halen;
Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne (Randy Rhoads);
(You Can Still) Rock in America by Night Ranger (Jeff Watson from memory - esp the tapping);
School Days by Stanley Clark;
Nuages by Martin Taylor for the awesome chromatic run.

Not all of them are really "solos" or whatever, but just have awesome sounding stuff (exc. some are kinda cheesy, lol, you'll know which ones)

Artist - Song
Lion - The Transformers
Immortal Souls - Suicidalive
N.R.G - Instruments of Destruction
Spectre General (Kick Axe) - Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way
Stryper - In God We Trust
Stryper - Rock the Hell out of You
Stryper - To Hell with the Devil
Living Sacrifice - Burn the End (not really a solo, just an acousticy-type part that sounds awesome)
Living Sacrifice - Flatline
Soul Embraced - My Tourniquet (yes, this is the original version)
Soul Embraced - Someone Just Walked Across My Grave
Nodes of Ranvier - New York City, 1963
Killswitch Engage - Breathe Life
Europe - Ninja
Europe - on the loose

Elvis Costello - "I Want You"

two notes over and over, off key, for about 10 seconds.
absolutely perfect in every way.

Basically anything done by Ten Years After, like

Love Like A Man
Working On The Road
I'd Like To Change The World

My all time favorite bass solo (if it qualifies as such) is Tony Iommi's at the beginning of Black Sabbath's NIB. Totally awesome.

Metallica - One (I still tap my foot to the beat at the end of that one...)
Black Sabbath - Into The Void (better title: Tony Iommi Showing Off)
Rage Against the Machine - Bullet in the Head (Live, off their self-titled DVD; amazing to watch)
Kyuss - Green Machine (bass solo, but it counts, right?)

Try King Crimson's track Starless from the album Red. Robert Fripp has a very nicely drawn out solo in the same style, lots of tension.

Todd Rundgren - Liar

Last track from his latest CD Liar is just FANTASTIC. Really good.

Of course, also:

Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page) - Heartbreaker
Edgar Winter - Frankenstein (does that count?

)
Pink Floyd (Glimore?) - Comfortably Numb
