Nope, read the credits. I have two copies of the album, not sure in which one it said something to the effect of "custom vocal resynthesis software by Uwe Schmidt". I also remember reading an article (in Grooves? perhaps?) in which the method was described.

I'm curious how you find it unmistakeable -- what characteristics are you hearing? Not going to argue with you that it does, indeed, sound like him -- I think part of his software had to limit its range just to pick up the vocals, and he does have a limited range.

But I'm fairly sure it's not.

It's unmistakeable because I've heard his voice many times, and I recognize it.

I know what you're talking about, though, and I've read a few articles about it too. I'm almost positive the remarkable thing is not that he "re-synthesized" the original vocals from the track, but that he wrote his own vocoding software to sound exactly the way he wanted it to.

You might be right about the pitch/etc. of the original vocals being used, but I guarantee you that's Uwe's voice on the album.

A couple of early Radiohead songs:

Creep: I love that guitar. I miss that guitar. It's very therapeutic.

I've Been Thinking About You: I don't think I've ever heard Thom that candid since then. He really airs it all out on that tune.

Everything by Nick Drake. Some of the saddest and most beautiful music ever created. The song, "Fruit Tree" is really so sad, especially in view of the reality of Nick's short and unhappy life. His voice and guitar playing are so sadly beautiful and compelling.

The Allman's "Whipping Post" Yeah, I know the song is almost a cliche by now, but come on, "Sometimes I feel Like I've Been Tied To The Whipping Post, Good Lord, I Feel Like I'm Dyin". Pretty unhappy.

Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green)= "Man of The World"

The Cure ="Pictures of You"

Wilco= "How To Fight Loneliness"

Death Cab For Cutie ="Styrofoam Cups"

Beach Boys "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times"

These are some that come to mind immediately.

Depending on why I am unhappy
For just a general depression I really like the album Down by Sentenced.

For more specialized depressed moods there is:
California Dreamin- Mamas and Popas
Me and You and a Dog Named Boo- I can't remember who did this
Old Friend- Rancid
Radar Love- Golden Earring
Magneto and Titanium Man- Wings

I know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, These aren't considered depresion songs but they let me wallow in depression for a while. Which, somedays I really like to do.

Gah... it was 'Lobo'.
I never had the album, and never really liked the song. It's depressing that I even retained this tidbit.
