Hi, I am curious to hear about your favorite sites for discovering new music and for reading about music in general. Please no poorly written or overloaded blogs, but also no pretentious write-ups a-la-pitchfork. I am looking for sites that you visit regularly, have a good lay-out and rating system, do short and to-the-point reviews (pref. with 'similar to' recommendations) and (this would make it complete) allow for songs to be previewed within the same page (can live without this). Lots to ask for but there are tons of sites out there and I know there must be some that stand out! All genres are welcome but preferably rock/pop/indie and soul music. THANKS!

www.Youtube.com (actually it is fantastic)
www.Grooveshark.com
www.Last.Fm
*OBVIOUSLY: www.beatport.com

So incredibly simple these days.
Step 1. Find track you like
Step 2. Search youtube for track name + hd or hq in name
Step 3. Use either DivX for highest possible quality, or else http://www.makeitmp3.com/ to convert the youtube video
Step 4. Download and enjoy

Amazon.com provides a lot of reviews and has different tags so that you can search inside different genres. The quantity of reviews works as a rating system. There are discussion sections too.

I especially like the reviews section which can give a lot of information.

*raises hand sheepishly* - pitchfork.

i don't really put a lot of stock in their reviews though.  usually when i discover bands on pitchfork i look them up on allmusic and then sample some of their stuff.
