Interesting post. They all certainly made statements with their voices and music. Your point about Dylan is well taken and it's hard to keep him off of my list. Like Cash and Presley, his voice is always welcome and soothing to these ears.

Ok, so I'm going to cheat a little and develop sub categories:

1. Most alluring/pure "singers" voices

Roy Orbison
Nat King Cole
Sam Cooke
Frank Sinatra
Paul McCartney

2. Most emotional/inspiring (perhaps because I identify so strongly with their music)

Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Pete Townsend
Jim Croce
Bob Marley

3. Most intriguing/quirky/fun to listen to

David Byrne
Robert Plant
Johnny Cash
Louis Armstrong
Van Morrison

4. Most likely to put me a good mood instantly

Elvis Presley
Jim Morrison
Stevie Wonder
Paul Simon
Ray Charles

Ok, my absolute top 5 would be:

Roy Orbison
Nat King Cole
Elvis Presley
Ray Charles
Neil Young (especially the Buffalo Springfield and CSN&Y days)

Brad Roberts (Crash Test Dummies)

His voice is liquid sex.
