First thing I read about those is a reduction in bass 🤔
I compared them to Spiral Dots last night. Bass was very similar. Corriers make deep insertion difficult as they essentially extend the nozzle. Scarlett’s don’t seem to need a deep insertion for giant bass.

Finally got my hands on the Scarlet, snapped up the first classifieds listing I could find inside the US. Has anyone tried double flange tips with the Scarlet? Double flanges (SpinFit CP240) are usually my go-to tips for IEMs since they tone down the treble which I'm super sensitive to, and boost the bass as well. I'm part of the "Deeper insertion = Less treble + More bass" group.

I like others here have observed that scarlet do not benefit from a deeper insertions. Maybe your experience will differ but for me using larger(M-L) sized tips produce a better bass response.

Is that one of the go-to sources for the guys/girls at FatFreq? If not, I wonder what their preferred sources are!

Hi @SCYJ,

Here are our in house sources!

Shanling m9 plus
Cayin N8
Sony WM1Z
Fiio M11
Lotoo Paw S1

Ones I use at home:

HiBy RS6
iFi xDSD gryphon, Go Blu, Go Pod
FiiO BTr7

Heres some stuff i've found to sound great on the Scarlets:

I've been loving UK bass and DnB through these.

I dunno, I actually like most genres through this. Sure it's a different presentation from a neutral perspective but it's fun. Plus the honestly I don't find the bass intrusive when it's not meant to be intrusive.

Only genre I find to not do too well is for metalcore adjacent genres where the distortion can be muddied up by the bass, which is why I tend to like signatures with emphasized upper midrange lower treble for those genres.

Also few tracks form me :) (ofc much much better FLAC/WAV on PC or player)

Oh damn i forgot add this diamond for scarlet :):)
Beautiful honey for my ears

Thank you guys for the wonderful reccomendations! Lots of great music ahead for us!

I've heard amazing things about the Shanling M9+ pairing with the Grand Maestro. Nice to see the FF guys also using it.

It's unfortunate that the price tag is equivalent to another Grand Maestro 😂

Yes, that can be how this hobby goes sometimes!

I have experimented with 7 or so eartips on my scarlet that are often recommended for the maestro mini.
I have found the Clarion Tri tips to be the best for me.
Wide and narrow bore tips have an even bigger difference on the scarlet mini. The main difference being how forward the bass is in the mix.
Narrow bore tips give the bass more impact while supressing the treble and mids quite a bit. I find this makes them way more fatiguing and making it harder to relax and just enjoy the whole song coherently. Find myself turning up the volume more just so the mids and highs are present enough but then too much bass. There are some tracks where this increased bass impact is beneficial, but i found that its a negative most of the time.
Wide bore tips do reduce the bass quantity a little bit, but i find it just makes the entire frequency spectrum more coherent and tied together, as opposed to having a subwoofer thats just cranked too high and drowning out the rest.
I find the wide bore tips also give a much nicer sound stage and positioning.

The other thing i have noticed is that dac filters also play a much larger role in the scarlet vs others.
Minimum phase filters will ensure perfect phase in the sub and mid-bass. This helps prevent the bass from being muddy and messing up the rest of the frequencies.
And a sharp roll off helps prevent them from being too warm/bloaty, while also helping the treble shine through a bit more.

The difference for me with wide bore tip/fast roll off minimum phase filter vs narrow bore tip + a slow roll off/phase compensated filter is IMMENSE.

I highly recommend people play around with these.

I've always been using the slow roll off filter for all my IEMs on my DX120, maybe I should try switching it up with my Scarlets after reading this 👍

Also glad that the Tri Clarion Tips seem to work for you, many people seem to not like using those tips due to the fit

I find the sharp roll-off filter better on my DX320Max, the slow roll-off kind of makes the music sound a little softer and less dynamic to me. Not a huge difference but noticeable.
